Orange peel
I'd like to have the SVX in perfect shape when I sell it next spring. There is some orange peel from the paint job a few years back. So the current plan is to wet sand the entire car using a sanding block with 1500 grit paper, then 2000 grit paper. Next step is to use a medium polishing compound and a high speed polisher with a wool pad. Then repeating the process with a fine cutting compound, and finally wax.
Any other suggestions? |
Sounds pretty dead on...
Ticallion,
I work at a body shop and that sounds pretty dead on to me. Just be careful with the sanding block near edges. You will burn through the paint very easily there. Same with the buffer. Another thing...make sure when you are wet sanding not to let any little pieces of dirt get between the painted surface and the paper...It will sometime cause deep gouges that cannot be sanded or buffed out. Other than that I think you're all set! Good luck to ya...you should post some before and after pics too! Megan |
Awesome, thanks a ton Megan :)
I'll begin whenever the beast thaws out of the snow bank in the driveway :) |
No problem.... can't wait to see how it turns out! :)

Be careful when you sand, some shops are starting to use less clear coat these days to save money. If you burn through, you're out of luck.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, when it comes to paint, you get exactly what you pay for. Doug |

I'll PAINT ANY CAR FOR ........
19.95...!!!
I would too (could I do it with a roller?):D |
Macco
Sounds like a Macco deal. $200 for a complete paintjob but they don't tell you on TV that the only thing they do for 200 is shoot the car...not prep or tape up the car. So pretty much for $200 you get a paint job thats going to peel and windows that are tinted the same color as your car. HAHA
