my fog lights hate fuses
So I got this svx and my fogs don't work. If I put the fuse in and the switch is off, it blows the fuse. The light harnesses are ok (I unhooked and tested them) and the switch will light up like they are on but they are not. Heck the switch even lights up if the headlights are even off. I guess there is a short somewhere but where should I look? Any chance the relay is crap? Where is the relay to check it? I have some extra parts that came with the car so I got some stuff to work with. Tips? TIA!

Maybe you should return it...
The relays are under dash. |

I should add that I have a new switch cluster so I am going to swap that out and give it a try but I have a feeling that is a non issue. Does your fog light indicator stay on even if your headlights are off but your car is on? My old impreza didn't so I would assume this is an indicator of an issue too. |

I'm surprised he trusted you with a check :p
And the indicator should only be on when the low beams and foglights are on. |

Re: my fog lights hate fuses
I had that issue on my first SVX.
The issue I came down to was bulb design. I had to put in a plug adapter (flat pin to round pin) for the bulbs that I had available. For what ever reason, these shorted out against the housing, and every so often, would zap out the fuse. I would check for a short in the wiring, a small burn in the wire casing someplace. James |

Make sure you have the right bulb. |
Re: my fog lights hate fuses
with the bulbs unhooked at the car (not the connector in the light fixture) it will still blow bulbs.
I replaced the switch the other day...still same issues. I'm going looking for the diode and the relay sometime this weekend hopefully. |
Re: my fog lights hate fuses
both fog lights are fed 12 volts directly from the "non switched-always on" fuse circuit and any control for turning the lights on results from grounding the other side of the lights to make a complete circuit through a relay system.. The hot line coming directly to the fog lights has an undesirable connection right to ground, blowing the fuses. The problem is not in the rest of the circuit but the supply to the bulb.
I would suggest disconnecting the battery and using an ohm meter to find where the short to ground is by isolating the circuit. Keith:cool: |

Blame Ben! :p

sorry... double post

Re: my fog lights hate fuses
The indicator light in the fog light switch has a different source for power than the fog light bulbs do.
Try disconnecting the red/yellow wires from both fog lights and see if it still blows fuses. If not, the problem is in the fog light fixtures... maybe grounding to that little wire thingie? |

Simple story: the wiring is very light duty and well simply put....it cooked. New wire installed and now I have working fogs. :D |
