Performance specs

Ever wander which is faster : a '92 LS-l AWD or a '94 LS ???

Well, here's your answer. I found this site while I was trying to find the torque split of a '91 Legacy AWD 5-speed.

I doubt their abilities to perform those tests or research those numbers. A 5MT BMW 325i has a faster 0-60 time than a 5MT BMW 328i?!

And the 1994 SVX LS is slower than the 1992? The 1992 weighs more (especially if it's got the touring package), loses more power to the wheels than the LS, and has higher gearing. Despite the fact that I do indeed own a FWD SVX, I am not a big FWD fan. But c'mon... There's just no way.

And before you say it Chike, cause I know you will, the AWD '92 is not going to give a better launch. And certainly not one that will give it 0.3 seconds of an advantage to 60 mph. Despite what all you AWD owners think, the FWD SVXen do not spin their tires that easily. Especially if you learn to control it.

I always take stats of the SVX from sites and mags with a grain of salt. most of them are stickshift "bible thumpers" that don't (and don;t care to) know how to launch an automatic vehicle worth a damn.

as for the FWD/AWD arguement..... When I put the FWD fuse in my last SVX, it would spin the tires with ease. although lighter (and with fewer driveline losses) I would think the AWD should get a slightly better launch. Damn... I brought it there. ::runs and hides::

EDIT - I can;t read.

It takes longer to go from 5-60 mph than it does to go from 0-60

the purpose of a "street start" is to eliminate the launch from the equation. this helps level the playing field for cars that depend on launching for high performance numbers (see: wrx). basically it's 0-60 with no launch

Is "Preformance" the test results before you install your mods? :p

Hmmm...I have a new spokesperson. :p

An awd car will have a better launch, but this can be taken out of the equation if the fwd owner uses slicks or sticky rubber.

One interesting thing to point out, in their test results the '94 LS ran the 1/4 mile in 15.61 @ 92.29mph while the awd '92 LS-L ran it in 15.32 @ 90.8mph. The trap speed clearly shows the fwd model is making more power, but the awd model has the 'traction' to run a lower time. ;)

Actually weren't the 92's the fastest of all other year svx's? I am almost certain. I remember reading that the 92's had a more aggressive torque path or whatever you call it in the powermode. I know the 92 is the fastest i just don't have the substantive proof to back it up....i'll go find the info...in the meantime if someone else knows where it is that would be greatly appreciative

Theoretical top speed for a 92 is only 145 mph? I thought the actual top speed was in the 150's and the theoretical top speed was way up there.

BTW, I wonder if they really took an SVX on the Nürburgring...

That's actually a myth... Engine output is the same across all model years. ;)

Boy, Talk about stiring up a hornets nest. I think I started something here.

red95svx 03-23-2005 07:38 AM

Here's my two cents. I've owned a 94 LE bare bones 2WD model, and I currently own a 95 L AWD and occassionaly drive my girlfriends 92 LSL. Out of all of them, the 92 is absolutely the fastest off the line. From what I understand, the changes made to the transmissions through the years slowed the cars down a bit. All 3 of them were roughly equal once they got going (and yes, I could easily spin the 94's front wheels), but the 92 without a doubt launches harder than the other two. I seem to remember seeing 0-60 times for all SVX years and the 92 did come out on top.

I think he was talking about torque transfer through the transmission.

I know i wasn't crazy! haha thanks guys. yeah i know just as well as any other fanatic that the engine output is 230 and like 186 at the wheels.

But yeah i was referring to the transmission torque transfer, if i am not mistaken there was inadequate fluid flow which was the cause of so many premature 92 transmission deaths...however subsequent year svx's "corrected" the problem...
