No electrical power...at all?
 

I drive 15 miles to work, parked my car, it sat for about 40 minutes. I went to move it, and as I turned the key, there was absolutely NO power at all. Not even enough for a relay click or the radio to turn on. Nothing at all worked. So as I was worrying, I had my door open, and then all of a sudden, the door light came on, and so did the green ignition light, and I tried to start it, and all was fine.
What could have caused this? and is it osmehow related to my recent problems?
As many of you know, I have been killing alternators recently. But I put in a genuine Subaru re-manufactured one only 12 days ago. All has been fine since.

Your battery had a bad connection to the rest of the car, and then, for whatever reason (e.g. heat, vibration, electrolytic action, pure blind chance, or whatever) the flakey connection remade itself. You can bet your life that this is why you were having problems.

You need to find that bad connection and fix it now. Things that go away by themselves can come back by themselves too, and usually at the most inconvenient times.

Even if all the clamps and bolts are tight, you can still have a bad factory made crimped joints in the cable connections themselves.

It sounds like a loose battery cable but I would check all the fuses as well. When I was checking mine I noticed that some of them don't fit very snug. I did my best to make them all hold tighter.

this happend to me once and it turned out the previous owner had choped ingnition wires under the dash and didnt conect them very well again

Well I think I figured out the problem that I had been having. I spent alittle time investingating the engine bay to look for an obvious problem, but all I really found was that the positive battery connector metal piece had become brittle and soft, and part of the metal had actually seperated, leaving an incomplete connection. also, the grounding lead that connects to the nut on the connector bracket was VERY loose. So I bought a new positive battery connector, swapped out my old one, tightened up the ground, and everything has been fine. Now am I SURE that was the problem? No, but it makes sense for now, and until I have another problem, I have to assume that was it.
