noob, don't hurt me.

alright, I'm brand new here. listen, I had a couple questions concerning these cars as I am on the hunt for my first SVX.

1. what is the difference between the LSL and LSI?
2. do ALL these cars have wood grain dash interior?
3. are there any years that are better than others?

thanks in advance. I really want one of these. I own a turbo and performance shop in Maryland and we have a dyno. we work primarily on WRX and STI models however I think these cars are really nice and I can't wait to get one all set up.

Mike,

Welcome to the site! I must say you live in an area where they're a lot of SVXers who are very passionate about their cars.

The best site to gather specific SVX info about each MY, is:
Cars101.com/SVX.

However, to answer your questions -

1) The LS-L and LSi are essentially the same thing, but the '92 SVX with the 'touring' package was termed an LS-L, while from '93 on the name changed to LSi. Some options for the '92 model, were standard on the '93 and later models - e.g. rear wing.

2) No. I know for a fact that the base models in '94-'97 used a grey cloth interior and grey plastic trim pieces. Here is a pic of mine:

3) All years are great, but Subaru made several updates to the auto trans between the '92 - '94.5 MYs. This page talks about the changes: http://www.subarusvx.com/faq/transmission.html

P.S. You mentioned you have an awd dyno. Whereabouts in Md is your shop? Would you give members of this forum any special rates for dyno sessions? I was planning on doing a few baseline dyno pulls over the winter period. Thanks!

Welcome to the site. Good luck on your search.

One correction to Chike's post - 92 and 93 MY had the LSL. 94 on had the LSi

Also the 94/95 MY without the woodgrain is probubly going to also be a FWD model and not an AWD.

Hey cool ~ I'm a MD noob too!

I have the SVX, fiance has RS, his brother has a Lmodel/WRX crossbreed beater sleeper in construction and their father has an STI...

Do you attend any MD/DC/NVA autocross events?

True, but some 95's came with an active safety package that included awd. Mychailo owns a Laguna Blue '95 LS with awd and a grey cloth interior...

fake wood grain ugh

I'm not a fan of the wood dash. I think I like the 92 darker wood better than the more golden stuff (the more golden looks a bit more real, but also more conspicuous) but I don't care for either. I wish mine had the plain grey dash. Dayle offers some cool dash layover kits - wide variety.
