How tough is the crossmember

Well, my new to me SVX that bottomed out has more issues.

AS I knew, the oil pan was replaced, and both front headers were impacted by the rail track.

Now I finally get under there and the drivers side control arm front mount was impacted too.

It looks like the leading edge of the control arm bushing mount was a direct hit, and it bent the poop out of it, twisting it back.

Would it be a good assumption that a crossmember was significantly impacted to need replacement? I don't think that the front tab (that the control arm attaches to) was hit bad.

The control arm is of course destroyed, although the car is still driveable - the tire shows significant wear though.

Whadda you think - crossmember? I know I am just asking for educated guesses, as I will get a mechanic to look at it - but I am just wondering how over my head I have become with this car.

Otherwise it looks great :) just this morning's discovery makes me want to
:barf:

TIA

I would suggest posting photos so that we can get a better idea of the damage you are trying to specify. :)

Well, that makes sense.

Fresh off the press..http://spda-online.ca/modules/xoopsg...4332.sized.jpg\

To add insult to injury, my daughter immersed her cell phone yesterday :(

I have done the same sort of damage to the arm on my car but the cross member was never damaged. I would just replace the arm and forget the rest it will be okay, its a lot stronger then you think.

Yea-like he said. If there is any problem replacing the control arm(first bolt goes in ok,second one wont line up)there may be a problem with the crossmember. If you can replace the control arm, take it to an alignment shop and they should be able to tell if you have any alignment issues.

My SVX was bottomed out in a very similar fashion. It hit hard enough to set off the airbags. My front subframe is mildly bent. It aligns to within .05deg of spec tho.
My advice, having been in this situation, before you replace the subframe, replace the arm, and have it aligned at a reputable shop. If it won't get closer than .05deg you should look into a new subframe. Tire wear is an issue at .05deg, but I run my cars on the edge alignment-wise.

Kewl, thanks for the advice - this one has deployed air-bags too, so very similar damage.

Anything else you had to replace?

Looking for a control arm now.
