question for BIG SVX owners
 

i have to drive to Baltimore (4-5 hrs) to take a class for my job with a co-worker in a few weeks. i'm guessing this guy is about 6'8" and 280lbs. i'm 6' 190lbs and if i stand next to him, i feel like a silly little man - he's a BIG dude! anyways, i'm wondering if he's even going to fit in the SVX. it looks to me like it may not be a real comfortable ride for him and i may have to take the WRX. i'd rather take the SVX because i don't get to do a lot of highway travel and, well, that's what the SVX was made for. i like high speed cruising in it when i get the chance :) it seems like the drivers seat goes back further than the passenger seat for some reason - why couldn't they have made the pass. seat go back more?!?
any big fellas out there want to comment on how comfortable a 4-5 hour ride would be in the passenger seat?

Take the SVX it has much more room than the WRX an is much more comfortable. I spend many hours daily in mine and wouldnt want anything else. last summer after driving to the 10th anniversary meet with my wife and two kids on board we continued west to visit relatives in CA and AZ.All totaled it was 41 days 9'700 miles 22 states 9 national parks and two provinces of canada. A trip the kids will never forget. The only thing I would of liked is a little more trunk space. there is plenty of room for two.My normal commute is from western ME to the Boston area pretty regulary.

I'm sure you already know this, but if you push the seat to the rear from its forward position.(The getting in the backseat position.) with the seatback in the upright position the seat will stop in the forward position. If you keep the seatback in the forward position and push the seat back and then raise the seatback to the upright position the seat will be in the rear position wiyh more leg room. hope this helps BOBB

i have no idea what you just said, but i'll play with it. :D this is one of those things that is hard to put into words i guess.

or you can just get in the seat, grab the release at lower left below the bottom seat and push back . I find it hard to get in the seat when it is forward and grab the release. A to the erlier post, you had to be there! BOBB

thanks Bobb, but after playing with it, its definitely hitting a 'stop' with the seatback up or down. it won't go any further and might be a tight squeeze for my buddy.
anyone know if the tracks that the seats ride on can be moved? on my old car, you could remove the seats and adjust the tracks forward or back a little using different bolt holes on the tracks.

Bobb, I have never read anything so funny, I'm sure it makes complete sense when you think through it, but what a mouth fun.

As for your issue, I have no experience, but does the passenger side backrest fold back?

I think the issue might not be with legroom only, but also people over six feet will probably brush their heads against the headliner. I'm six feet tall and I've got maybe an inch or two between my head and the ceiling.

When your company requires you to travel on company business, don't they pay for the travel. If so, why not just rent something bigger and save the miles on the SVX?

this ain't a garage queen - its for driving, speedy highway driving in comfort, to be more specific ;) (they pay 37.5 cents a mile for travel)

Alan, what does your co-worker drive? My thinking is he is a big guy and is probably used to being a little cramped. Let's face it, not too many cars out there are designed to give a guy that big enough headroom like you and I expect to get. There's a pretty good chance he will think nothing ill of it if you offer to take him in the SVX. Just a thought ;)

I agree with Johnny - if he complains tell him to shut-up and leave the whine in the box. ;) I'm 6'4" and 240#. I drove 36 hours straight through from Denver to Ft. Lauderdale in my '92 without any problems. In fact I was thinking that in any other car my back would have me crying in just a few hours.

i'll tell him to shut up and quit whining. when i get out of the hospital, i'll apologize. :) i'll bet the drivers side in the SVX wouldn't be a problem, but the passenger side seems more cramped.
i may just knock him out like they did to Mr. T when he had to fly on the "A-Team." i can just fold the rear seats down and stuff him in the trunk. :D

nice idea hehe, i find the passenger side does seem cramped, dont knowwhy, sat in it to clean like 3 times, glad i only drive hehe, and i am only 5'9".
