transmission hell

About 6 months ago i had the trans rebuilt
by this company... Tanner Transmission. in utah .
got it back within a week !! right on!!!
well 2 weeks later it started slipping again
and the RWD went out and it was running on the
fronts. so they fixed it again. after about 6 weeks
i got the car back for the 2nd time, RWD works,
FWD works, not slipping cool, 2 weeks later
RWD goes out again.. so i saw screw it and drive
on the front's cause i have work to get to and so forth.
took it into subie and the Duty selonoid for the RWD
has a open, and the Variable Vane pump is broken
and the clutch packs are slipping. then a week later
it blows the pinion gear out the side of the transmission!!
it works just enough the rear wheels move me to a
parking lot 2 blocks from subie. they take a look at it
and i'm a taking it to the transmission killers again to
fix it under warranty and to take them to court.
the rebuild cost 3000$ and my warranty is still good.
but i'm tired of this crap..
so don't go to tanner trans.. ever!

Sorry you've had such a rough time of it.

Make sure you add Tanner Transmission to our 'SVX Shop Search' so owners can avoid them in the future.

Sorry to hear it, man. I've been to hell and back too. Best of luck in the future. It's sad to say that your "Mom and Pop" tranny shops are probably WAY over their heads when they get an SVX transmission. Hopefully, we've gone through the "learning curve" at my local tranny shop.

I had the same problem with my tranny shop. They couldnt keep the tranny working... ever 6 weeks or so something would happen. Then the subaru dealer walked them through the problems, and they have it tuned very well now. I've got about 32,000 miles on the rebuild they did the last time. They said though that they will never work on a svx again.

The shop I took mine to recognized it was a Subaru box before I said a word, and I drove up with it in the back of a Toyota. They also asked me if it was from a Legacy or an SVX. They mentioned setting up the differentials is pretty tricky. I expect your shop cut a few steps. In fact, that's what originally caused me to be at the shop myself. The PO had the transaxle pulled and a used transmission put on the old diff (trying to get by on the cheap). The diff self-destructed in short order after I bought the car. I had it all rebuilt while it was apart - why go half-way at that point.

Best of luck, but sorry to say - unless they learned some more between the first job and now, you're probably not done with this wild-ride yet.:(

when mine failed.......

i coughed up the $2600 and bought a remanufactured tranny. still running strong today, especially after i put my tranny cooler on the car.
