Svx 4 sale, good car to buy?

There is a 1992 svx lsl for sale at a small car dealership near my house for $2995. It has 97000 original miles body is perfect condition not even a scratch and same with the leather interior. The speedometer does not work but who cares those are over rated anyways, the back tires are cracked and bumped and i'm surprised they still hold air lol. But i was wondering if you guys think that this is a good deal. Also the dealer says it makes noise from the backend but he says it's from the tires. I have checked the tire deal and his story holds since bad tires will do that. Again if you guys think this is a good or bad deal feel free to advise me in my purchase.

Thanks

Hmm...probably rear wheel bearings, not tires. the tires SHOULD be evenly worn out on all 4 corners. if not, there could be some other issues

With an svx, you gotta look at all the typical "Im buying a used 15 year old car" kinda stuff....there's alot of svx-specific things to check out in the how-to section.

as for the price..Unless there's something insanely wrong with it mechanicly (Like...say..both the engine and tranny um, exploded, and the main wiring harness was made of pipe cleaners and electrical tape) then jump on it. Ask them, for a test drive, you'll be hooked:) before you know it, you'll have 14 of 'em

..then again, you're asking a biased crowd

Something to note is that depending on why the speedometer isn't working, the odometer may not be working either. So the car's actual mileage might be higher than 97,000.

I would get carfax and see what the miles were last time it was reported. If it's been a while, and the odometer isn't working, add about 10-12k for every year it's been since it was last recorded and you should have a more accurate milage count.

The noise from the "Tires" could be just a cover up story; make sure that you thoroughly inspect the transmission.

still it could be the tires...I have pirelli's w/less than 10 K on them and they are loud...think about getting new tires on it.....you can get a speedometer cluster from members on here....heck I have one but some of the lights are out on it due to a bad printing plate on the back that can be replaced.....Once you do that, you can check the codes on the car.......(that is if you decide to purchase this vehicle).....I would inquire about a carfax though.

More than likely one or both rear wheels have bad bearings in them. From my experience, bad wheel bearings get louder when lateral force is applied when moving. Tire noise should maintain a constant level. A proper road test may shed some light on the car's condition. If it is all original then most likely the rear wheel bearings are bad considering the mileage. I would also have the tranny fully checked out by an expert.

If the SVX is in as great shape cosmetically as you say, and the only thing wrong is wheel bearings and a set of tires, then $3k for the car is not a bad price. If anything is wrong with the tranny then it is not such a bargain. Best of luck with it though! I hope it all works out for you! :)

thanks for the tips guys but stuff hasn't worked out like i thought. i just got in my third car accident a couple of days ago and i've only had my license for about a year and a half. so my insurance is going to sky rocket now and a luxury performance car is out of the question. still i might get a fiero to work on over the winter now for fun.
