:( sorry to hear about that white smoke. It's not a very good indicator. When the head gasket went in my car I decided to get a used engine instead of rebuilding it. I had 110k miles at the time. When I got the engine out and the heads off I found the block was not flat. The used engine was less expensive then getting a short block. It was was also quicker then getting the block remachined. How much are you willing to spend?

Do Eg33 have a problem with head gaskets, like the ej25.

No, they don't. The EG33 really doesnt have any problems. It's a great engine! :)

I think John and I would beg to differ

on that one Mike ;)

I agree, it sounds bad for your engine. Probaby best to have a trained Subaru Tech look at it. Cost will be high for whatever engine repair is necessary unless you do the work yourself

:(

Todd (I've replaced the headgaskets on mine)

I know for a 2j25 head gasket its around $2500-$3000 US. The reason the cost are so high is because you have to take out the engine to change the head gasket.

We are at war with Eurasia. We have always been at war with Eurasia.

Just kidding. I agree with Mike - I don't think we've seen anything which would suggest that the EG33 is prone to any kind of failure. They seem to be extremely well-built and reliable. Blown head gaskets are not common, even though most of our SVXen are ten or eleven years old.
