big brake options
So I've seen all sorts of different tries at big brakes but not all went through. Other than old tom's what ones are actually available at this point in time??

Re: big brake options
Is there anything available when using stock wheels?(besides Movit)Just asking because I run stock wheels with dedicated snows in the winter.

Re: big brake options
Movit does not do a rear kti I am pretty sure. it is $2500 for just the fronts. I have 6 piston wilwood kits for $1950, 4 piston wilwoods I think were 1300 ish, but I would have to check the thread to be sure...

Re: big brake options
Bobby, did you ever actually install a kit successfully on any of your SVXs? That thread kinda died out and I think some people might be reluctant to invest such an amount of money into a kit that hasn't been proven yet.

Re: big brake options
yes... I just dont have the cash to personally own one right now... They were put on the car and everything was fine...

Re: big brake options
Didn't the guy that bought the movit brakes end up paying north of $1200 for a set of replacement rotors? And they are only front btw.

Re: big brake options
That is ridiculous... I can get 2 piece DBA rotors as part of this kit for a ton less than that....

Re: big brake options
Yes, I'm the one that has the MovIT brakes on my 96 SVX. I bought the car from another member here with the MovIT's already on it. I just replaced the rotors and pads, just over $1600.00 with shipping customs and taxes. These are fantastic brakes the difference between these and stock is night and day...I'm always worried about drivers behind me, I know I can stop, but can they?
These things are made for racing, you can change out the pads in less than a minute and the rotors in less than 3 minutes...overkill for everyday driver, but the stopping power has come in handy a few times. |
Re: big brake options
I just reread this thread...stock rims do not fit with the Movit brakes, the calipers are just too big, the rotors are also bigger and thicker. I tried to use stock with winter tires on them. I had to go out and buy 4 17' snows and use the summer rims in the winter. I have 17' rims, with spokes that arch out, that just gives enough to clear the caliper by 2 millimeters without a spacer.
They are now making rear kits as well, not that I plan going that route, the fronts give me much more stopping power than I need now. I did have the rears powder coated red to match the front Movit's...just didn't look right having beautiful red Movit's on the front and rusty originals on the rear, now everything is in balance :) |
