Help!
Okay here it is, I got in my car tonight and started Helix up. He stirred for a few moments to warm up and i hope in him to go. Everything is fine at this point. I put him in drive hit the gas and like a Christmas tree my dash lights up: Steering, alternator/battery, stop lamp, brake, ABS, and Air Bag (which is always on thanks to a bad combo switch). It seems to be and drive fine nothing dim etc. A few miles down the road and I notice the lights dimming. Okay now we have a symptom instead of a christmas tree. I disconnected the battery and boom he's dead. Alternator right? Why are all thos lights comming on? Is there something else that might have a problem or just replace the alternator tomorrow and go on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -G |
Take battery to any auto parts shop and have them test it first. If ok, you might have a faulty alt. which you can also get checked. Wierd stuff always happens when either of them go out.

It's the alternator. Just had to replace mine too....twice!

okay, well I already know that the alternator is bad. I am sure the battery is fine, I just got it a couple of months ago and have not put 5000 miles near it yet! I was just wondering what might cause all the lights ir if that is comon to an alternator problem?

I second it.

I concur. I had the same 'Christmas Tree' symptom when my alternator went bad.

Third
Yep. Almost certainly alternator.
That Christmas Tree thing really scared me when I got my car first, thought everything was faulty. You could do like Randy did, and get an uprated rewind while the alternator was out. BTW, the guys who fixed mine only needed to put in bearings. If the bearings break, the windings can hit the stator, hence the fairy lights. Fix was cheap at about $100. Joe:) |
