Another How-To

I just went and changed the console shift indicator light and decided to do a how-to on the subject. I have the page (with pictures) on my computer for judgement:

http://dcss.dyn.dhs.org/svx_iw/how-t...ole_light.html

I would appreciate comments (especially from anyone who has done this job also)

ps. this is part of something much bigger that I am working on.

Couldn't get the page to show.

Yes I just realized that. Unfortunately I'm not at home to take a look at the problem. I will figure out what happened later this evening.

You can be sure that your efforts will be appreciated. It is this sort of info which makes the site so worthwhile.

It is great that you are asking for feedback from others who have done the job before and are are striving to post the best possible advice. Also that you have something much bigger in mind.

Some better way of filing all the how to stuff in one place with provision for editing by those who subsequently follow the advice and can add more tips would be great. Possibly you are sticking your neck out for the job of Managing Editor to keep things in order. ;)

Trevor, thanks for the support!

I hope to be able to get that link working within the next 4 hours (depends when I'm able to leave work)

As for the larger project, I can neither confirm nor deny your allegations :p

OK I hope the link is working once again:

Thanks for the instructions. I need to do this, and a friend needs to do the same. We were talking the other day on when we would become adventureous. Now we can move on with some confidence. :)

That is very well written. I just have one question, what is this replacing? What does this bulb light up?

That's what I said when I found out there was supposed to be a light there :)

Does anyone have a pic of this light after the install? This sounds like a fun weekend.

nice how-to, but i have a question. i need to remove the shifter console because under the indicators, some of the black paint near them is scratched off and at night, light shines through these spots. looks kinda crappy. would i be able to get a paintbrush in there to touch up these spots, or does the shifter console piece need to be dis-assembled further? does this make any sense? i'm on pain-killers

Thanks for the HowTo, David! I didn't even know there was a light down there. I always thought one would be useful but figured we were supposed to look at the one in the gauge cluster for it.. I will be tackling this in the near future. Thanks again! :D

I added a picture to that how-to page of what it's supposed to look like (night shots are difficult to take!!)

Also, I decided to take shots of the dash lights and how they are supposed to look as well:

Left of Steering Wheel
Right of Steering Wheel
Roof Lights
