Trouble With Hills

Hi. I've noticed recently my SVX is having trouble going up hills. Not exactly sure why but once I attempted to floor it and it went into power mode and then stalled on top of an overpass. Worked fine after I started it up again. But the other day I was in the country and started to climb a small, but relatively steep incline from 0 and she just wouldn't go. Didn't start to go down the hill backwards, just stayed where she was and revved. I put it into semi-manual mode, and dropped into third but she still wouldn't budge so I applied the brakes, reversed a little, put it back in third and tried again. I got up the hill pretty slowly then, not wanting to risk it, turned around and took the 1-hour drive back home with no problems.

I have another problem where the car jerks, sometimes violently, once in awhile. I can only describe it as hiccuping. I don't know if the two are related because the hiccuping started before this hill issue but I figured I should mention it.

I took my car into a garage and the guy drove it around but there are no hills around here and said he can't fix anything if he doesn't know what's wrong. So I'm asking you guys what you think might be some possible causes. Thanks.

Edit: Just got back from the garage and the mechanic said the only thing he could think of was the catalytic converter but wouldn't the car stall if that were the case? The car didn't stall it just revved.

My money is on the MAF sensor.

Can you elaborate? And what's a TC?

TC=Torque converter:)

I was going to say that the revving but not going anywhere does sound transmission related and your car "jerking" or "hiccuping" as you describe could be the MAF or the TPS.
