I want to get this on my SVX when it's available

Bose is developing a suspension system that uses electromagnetic motors. Theres a few videos on the right of the page. Notice they use a Lexus LS400 as their test model, now I dont know if any of you have driven in a LS400, but these cars already have a very smooth ride. Imagine something like this on a SVX.

bose syspension system

i hope it works better than their speaker systems. :D

LoL, how'd you do that? Been trying to get that link up for the past hour, lol.

I just cut and past. I had to search goggle to figure out what site you went to.

Glad to help
I believe that GM offers a similar suspension package on the corvette on the Cadillac convertible

Anyhow glad to help. Great video to.

Interesting as a proof of concept, but I doubt very much that it'll be available for many car, if any, through the aftermarket. I think it's far more likely that, if they sell it at all, it'll be through the manufacturers. I mean, it's not a direct replacement for standard struts - they replaced the entire suspension system on that car.

I haven't looked into the technology behind the Bose system, but I've seen several people compare it to the new system on the Corvette and certain Cadillacs. That system uses magnetorheological fluid in the dampers, and an aftermarket system has been developed by Carrera.

For some info on MR dampers, check out http://www.shodor.org/~bblock/weave/website/12.html and http://www.rodmillen.com/Mroads.htm.

I was looking for info on this stuff back when I first read about it on the new Vette, and even found a cool link on how to make your own... that's on my home computer though.

Bose speaker systems are outright pretty crappy.

Actually it's a completely different and far more complicated system using linear motors to position the wheel. There are no springs or dampers to speak of - the car's wheels are moved up and down along the suspension travel by the linear motors.

Yeah, I just got done reading all about the Bose system and watching all their video clips, and was about to say what you just said... it's a completely different system and looks pretty cool. It looks to be as far beyond the MR dampers as the MR dampers are compared to conventional dampers, or even more so.
