Hello all, My name is mike, and I just bought a 92 svx, its pearl white, to be honest, im not sure if its a l or ls or lsl, i am not familair with these cars enough just yet, i also own a 95 3000gt vr4 and a 95 m3, the svx is a car i have wanted for many years now, and i have it :) it needs some minor cosmetic work, and i would like to do mods, i have no idea what performance mods are avil., but any input is great, i need speed, bty, I own my own bodyshop, please keep me in mind if any of you have any bodywork related questions, or need any paint or supplies for your projects, i will be glad to help :) oh yeah, how long do i have before the tranny goes...when i first start it in the morning, it takes about 1.5-2 seconds to engage into drive...is the tranny junk, i have heard they are notorious for tranny probs, any insite would be great, thanks guys

Mike,
Welcome to the network. I've responded and welcomed you in your PS leak post, but, again, welcome.

If your Pearlie has leather seats, moonroof and CD player, it's an LS-L.

There aren't any real performance mods to speak of for the SVX, but you'll soon learn of those available. The SVX will give you your speed, but only in the upper ranges. It's not a dragster. You'll hear many of us "preach" on this. So, don't be disappointed when you're not doing 6 second 0-60's and 15 sec quarters. It ain't likely to happen. On the other hand, get going about 60 MPH, and push the pedal to the floor quickly (notice "quickly"). When the power light comes on, you'll know what I mean by speeds in the upper range.

My transmission has just been rebuilt. It takes a little while to engage, first thing in the morning too. It isn't really anything to worry about. Now, when it starts slipping in the 2-3, then, you've got something to worry about.

Mike,
Welcome to the network. Like Randy said, there is not much you can do to mod the SVX out. There are things you can do but as for the look, I personally think the stock SVX is somewhat pleasing. Now, as for speed, like Randy said, SVX was not meant for drag races (although some will disagree).

I have seen (saw posts here actually) people putting nitrus on the SVX. Is it doable? Yes. What you do to the SVX under the hood is up to you. Chances are the more you try to floor the SVX, the harder it will break. I am not trying to scare you or anything, but just watch out. It's just like women, you treat her right, she will be good to you. If you push her around, damn, you are asking for trouble.

As for the body shop tips, thanks for the offer. If I were closer, I'd come in for a repaint. I need to get that done. But for now, just thanks.

Lwin

ps. I have posted before (as a joke) that if you have money, I can put in ICBMs in your car so that you can really fly in the SVX. Since you own the bodyshop, in the future, I'll point them to you for installing them. :D

Welcome

from me too Mike.

The guys are right, treating the car gently will get you best return. A friend of mine George has a 3000GT, it is boosted up to 350 horse or so, and is nicely quick. The SVX will not do these things, it is a relaxing hi-speed cruiser, with a good turn of foot over 70 or 80.

If you are into bikes, the SVX is the car equivalent of the Honda VFR750/800. Nobody bothers to upgrade them because in stock trim, they do everything so well as to satisfy the majority. Also, with 4 cams they are complex and expensive to tune or modify, similar to the SVX in that regard.

If you must add power, and extra 80hp from nitrous seems to be a reasonable way to go. Need more than this?, take away the auto transmission, or you are courting disaster.

Joe:)
