Hello, i'm wondering what is a good gas type for the svx... im a newbee for svx... well what do y'all think????

Nothing lower than 91 octane. I always use shell or getty. Mostly Shell because its 93 and full service :D

I concur. I also like Mobil gas and Chevron.

If you invest in the Stage 1 chip from ECUTune, you can wire it to allow you to use regular 87...

I like Amoco or Mobil ....nothing but the best - highest octane. I usually fill up around 15 gallons for a whopping $30+. We've got this 18.5 gallon tank but I've never filled up past 16 gallons ....it's amazing because the low fuel light's on and it looks like the needle is ready to fall off.

Always use Hess, cause its the cheapest 93 around here. I can fill her up completely for around 24 bucks. I guess I'm luckier than a lot of folks. Got to cut down on my driving though...

Everyone is right. It says "premium fuel only" for a reason. The higher octane allows for a slightly higher compression ratio. That creates more power. Also, putting anything below the recommended 91 will result in premature detonation which is not good. It leads to power loss and the engine is not designed for that.

I don't care what the "brand" fanatics say, buy any juice, 91 octane or above & you'll survive nicely.

In day-to-day driving I top-off at between one-half and three-quarters of a tank and alternate between premium (93 octane) and midrange (89). There's no benefit in paying extra for straight premium, nor in shopping by brand.

I've been running 87 for a few weeks now. I get about 1-2mpg less. So it may not be worth it but it works none the less. Assuming you have Stage I. You would not want 87 in your SVX otherwise.
With a $.20 difference between 87 and 93 I'm only going be using 87 until 93 goes down a bit.

87 is a no no. If I remember correctly you may over heat. Has to do with the detenation/octane thing. The onboard computer adjusts to the fuel on board, so constantly changing fuel may not be a good thing either.

On a diff. note: If you are in the east ie Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, the best fuel is Irving. Simply because it is the CLEANEST fuel made. They did a mega up grade to produce low/no sulpher gas. Esso has just started a maga refit of their refinery here to change over. Personally I buy the cheapest, usually Esso (Exxon for our southern bros.)

all major brands of automotive fuel are made by 2 or 3 companies. but brand does matter, as they all incorporate their own additives. general rule of thumb is the more expensive the gas, the more additives. the more additives, the better the gas.

what compression do these things run to require premium gas?

10:1 and I disagree with your above statement. Gas is gas. Most of the time you aren't going to be able to tell between one brand and the next. Always run 91 and above.

Also, more additives isn't always better.

i agree, not always. most major brands have good additives though. it's hard to find out what exactly a company is putting in, but overall, major names can be trusted.

it's the "i want to save $0.04/gallon on gas by buying from a cheapo station" sort of gas that'll get you in trouble.
