All Problems Suck

Well now I hate this..... The transmission stays in one gear, The rear wheel bearings are dead, and there is a gasket leaking oil onto the exhaust so after 50 miles it starts to smoke. I dont know how long it will take me to fix it all but I will soon. ~Dennis

Ouch! Sorry to hear it mate.. A sick SVX is never a happy thing... :(

Glad to hear you're going to repair her rather than part her, though.

The transmission doesnt shift at all? If its first gear then you might need a brake band adjustment. I think its 150 at the dealer. You can do it yourself but its kinda difficult.

Which gear is it stuck in?

mysvxrocks 09-27-2004 07:17 PM

Gear

I dont know..... To get it going you have to rev it to 2000 and while going 60 MPH its at about 3-3.5 thousand rpms so I dont really know? ~Dennis

Hmm that sounds really odd.

Sounds like 3rd. Check your TCU under the dash and if possible replug each connection to it (3 of them I believe).

I may be wrong but I thought I read recently that the 4EAT will only operate in 3rd gear with the TCU disconnected.

Other things to test are if you can pull any codes from the TCU. Even if only to get the "all clear".

If nothing else then replace the TCU with a known working one. I'm sure you will be able to find a donor TCU from someone here.

I looked at the TCU and un hooked it all and re-hooked it back up. The problem is still there, however If I leave the TCU un-hooked then the trans works in ALL of the gears but it still wont shift. ~Dennis

I would definately try another TCU then.

well i wouldnt say that its the TCU just yet. ever time my tranny goes those are the symptoms.
