imports to Aus

I know there is some issue with getting cars in the country, but is there any way apart from owning one o/s for 12 mths in getting a SVX in the country?

unless its been changed cars that are 15 years old can be registered here without requiring compliance, this means svx's 91-93 can be brought over and registered straight away

Darin, it has changed. It's now only for vehicles made before 1 January 1989.

Therefore, the SVX doens't make it.

Bruce...the 12 month OS ownership rule does still apply.

From what I remember the rule for importing a car is not just the 1989 factor, you can also import cars that weren't sold in high volume or import cars that were special edition. For example a year a go we could buy the Lancer EVO 9 from the Aussie mitsubishi dealership but could still get hold of all the imported variants that never came to Aus for example the GSR and all the Spec models. Maybe I'm very wrong about the whole story but even if we found a variant of the SVX to import to Aus for example the SVX CXW or whatever they call it there, you still need to setup a compliance system thingo that meets the Australia Design Rules to register the car.... So in other words WE'RE STUFFED... dam

Then maybe you ought to check out if they will allow you to import the CXD version.

These were only made/sold in 1991-2, and had the active 4WS system. These are very rare, very special, and may qualify, if you can make a case they will accept.

I always had the impression that there were a lot of "grey imports" for the skylines - although they were available here they still manage to get them from Japan somehow.
Even just this week I read that Nissan Australia - alhtough they are bringing it in, can't do anything about the new GTR being imported in privately ( about 1/2 doz or so so far) - gee, be nice to have that sort of $$ floating around

How do we enquire? I'm dying to get my hands on an SVX with all the bells and whistles, no one in Japan wants a car like this anymore. I really don't know who the hell will buy this car, but on this site there are at LEAST 2 SVX up for auction everyday. Not to mention how cheap these are.

I'm considering going into JapLink on Parramatta Road and enquiring.
