Adding an OEM Spoiler

.
Has anyone with an SVX without a spoiler, added the OEM one? I picked one up from a pick-n-pull and I’m wanting to put it on my car.

The positions for drilling the holes are already molded into the trunk lid. Look from inside the trunk. My body shop did it back in 1993 when I bought my pearl one. The dealer threw in one to seal the deal. A $600 option back then.

And it cost me only $150.00 installed and painted black.

Awesome, ill have to check out the inside of the trunk. I wonder how hard it is? I think it would be cool to mold it into the body.

Actually looks nicer when they mount it a few inches more to the rear so it almost hangs over the dack of the deck. Also remember you trunk lid is going to be extremely heavy.

Ill look at mine in a minute, as I did pick one off a salvage car a year ago and I'm now in a paint class, so in the process of sanding now and removing all the plastic bits.

Holes are just forward (above) of the trunk shock on each side. There are three

Drill holes at the indentations in the spoiler at the RED arrows.

If you want to move the spoiler back, look at the instructions and photos in this thread by Bwana.

in 1992, the OEM rear spoiler was an option, and added by the dealer prior to delivery. Here are the instructions.

The dealer-installed spoiler instructions tell you to drill a 1/4" (6mm) hole from the underside of the trunk through the top and then drill a 1/2" (13mm) hole from the top back down. Actually, the instructions gave the drill sizes in mm, but this is approximated.

Be careful not to drill into your car's body if you have the lid closed to drill the 1/2" hole. You can place a scrap of wood under the trunk when You lower it in case the drill bit goes through too far.

Some members have moved their spoilers back approximately 2” back farther. If you already have a spoiler installed, the holes can be plugged with plastic plugs or with silicone sealer.

The part number for the 4 nuts that hold the spoiler on is 902600009

A thin ribbon of strip “rope” caulk is installed around the two holes in the top of the trunk lid prior to mounting the spoiler. This keeps water from entering the holes, as it spreads and compresses when the spoiler is tightened down.

I personally think it looks sleeker without the spoiler. Sealing and filling the holes and refinishing is a lot more expensive (almost $1000). More faithful to the original design.
