I would like to get one of those license plate covers that blurr the numbers if a photo is taken say like on a red light camera. They are starting to install those cameras here in my fair city of Austin.

Available on-line, also available in the ad section of most auto magazines. It looks like a clear plastic cover that goes over your license plate. It distorts light as it passes through from different angles. I have not heard about any laws against it, but you might want to check it out before installing it.

It's not legal here. There's another solution...don't speed through or run red lights.

I have not received any tickets from any of the intersections we have cameras in here in Winnipeg.

I imagine it's much the same in Canadaland, but here in the US running red lights has become an epidemic. In my city, we don't have delays on most lights, so you have to be very careful when the light turns green. Sometimes people will fly through 5sec after the light has turned red on them.

I don't know what the mentality is, but it's viciously dangerous.

They have a reflective spray paint that is normally clear. If you use that it is less likely to get you pulled over, because it isnt as oticable as a cover over your plate.

I'm fairly certain it's illegal here in Ga. to place anything over a license plate, tho' I do occcasionally see cars with some sort of tinted transparent covering. Probably an issue only if one gets pulled-over for something else or encounters a license/DUI checkpoint.

Hard to imagine any sort of spray that would optically distort the characters on a license plate without being abundantly obvious.

The plate cover that I am talking about allows the numbers to be seen if you are looking directly behind it. Say if you were following a car that had this plastic cover, you could read thier plate numbers.

If you are viewing it from a strange angle, maybe like a security camera, the numbers would be distorted.

up that was the crap I was talking about.

the cameras are generally mounted high up correct?

the law generally states( i cant speak for specific jurisdictions)
that the plate cant be obscured when viewed from the rear (or front i 'spose...)

so if a person creates (a VERY ugly) cover that is only ABOVE the plate, it will block the camera, while allowing full view from the rear

(i have visions now of svx'x everywhere with plates frenched all the way into the spare tire wells...............:rolleyes: )
