How to tell if I have original tranny?

My car has 173000 miles and my front diff is going and was wondering if my tranny was original it still works good and all but is there any way to tell if it is the original tranny in the car.

A good indicator, although not Gospel, is the silver tag with black letters on the bell housing on the drivers side of the transmission, by the starter.
If it says, for instance"TZ102ZM1AA"

and the aluminum tag, rivited to the drivers shock tower, at the bottom, (where it says "trans code") says TZ102ZM1AA, it could be the original transmission.

IF the #s are different, it is not the original.
