Oil Filter delisted

I've always used 14461 filters. Today I went to get one and couldn't find one at Canadian Tire. Their chart now recommends 3593A, a much shorter filter.

I went to Purolator's web site and they recommend 14459 while Quaker State web site recommends 14612.

What the heck would you do?

3593a has always been the recommended filter for the SVX. It's also the same filter we used on the Justy.

Me too. The 66% larger size, anti-drain and bypass valves and more surface area for better cooling inceases my comfort level.

You can also buy K&N HP-4001 off their ebay store. It is a little more expensive but has the same high efficiency filter material as the Mobil 1 oil filters. I am considering doing extended OCIs with a combination of this filter and Mobil 1 High Mileage Oil.

many companies, i especially know of purolator because that's the brand at work, are trying to decrease the number of filters they carry by eliminating the ones that have different filter capacities but the same threads/seal size. our stock of filters has decreased by half, which is good, but most of the new filters are half the size of the older ones, which is bad.

Re: Oil Filter delisted

Well I now remember why I was using a 14461. It's the equivalent to the Purolator L30165.

Just came back from Canadian Tire and the have delisted all Purolator filters and they don't have an equivalent in Mobile 1, Fram regular, Fram High Milage, Quaker State or their house brand Motomaster.

So i grabbed a PH3593A which is slightly larger than the 44612.

Next time I plan an oil change I'll have to shop in advance for my filter.

Think I had a senior moment yesterday.

The 14461 is not the equal of the L30165. It's just larger (taller)than the 3593A.

The K&N HP-4001 is as large as the L30165 but with a higher efficiency filter material.

FYI ALL THOSE FILTERS ARE MADE BY FRAM! LOL
fram/motomaster/mobile 1, quakerstate and i think some others too

I use NAPA filters which are made by WIX (sp?) which are better and cost less than fram ones.

Looks like M1 and K&N are made by Champion Labs.
