Soon to be, new mini-truck!!
A friend has a 79 Dodge/Plymouth TC3. It has the Audi 4 banger and a stick. New clutch, headgasket and timing belt. He parked it in front of his Mom's house and some PUNKS were driving around throwing BOLDERS out of a truck at parked cars.
Well, The TC3 caught one where the hatch meets the roof. Back of roof caved in, rear glass gone. Dave didn't have comp, so he's SOL unless they catch the $%^&*ers. I told him that I can save it. I will be picking it up over the weekend. I'm going to gut the interior, hack off the roof behind the doors, put in a 'cage', do a sliding rear window and a tailgate. I will then cut the front of the roof and install some pins in the front and latches in the back. The piece of roof that sits just rear of the doors will be attatched and the rear window of the 'cab' will hide the roll bars. A cover will be installed to keep the bed dry. Finished, it will look like a 'shortened' Rampage. He has NO idea what I'm going to do!! The only paint work will be where the 'mods' are, since the paint is beautiful. Yea, I COULD just get a roof and hatch and make it just like the 'others', but that's NOT ME!! |
Jerry,
Looking forward to pics are you work your magic! -Bill |
You talk allot of things you can do, but have no proof I have seen. Get with the times and buy a dig cam so you can give us pics! I am interested in the fun tuff you got going on, so I am not being negative at all. I actually have a very similar job to yours. I fab anything and everything ouut of any material every day. Wait, I don't have any pics either! OK I am a hypocrite, haha.

There will be LOTS of pics this year! I am a 'recovering' lounge lizzard!! I sat and rusted for 5 MONTHS over the eyeball! At 11:30 last night, I was fabricating window channels for a 32 3 window coupe! I gave them to bro today and 2 are installed already! I had heard about the channels for 4 days. I went over and asked for a piece of the rubber he was trying to mount. It tool me 20 MINUTES to make all 4 channels with my trusty metal brake!! (About an hour before I made the channels, Bro stated that I was an 'Energetic F#@!!' It was 10:45 when he said that!) I loaded the VW on the dolly tonight for it's trip to the spraybooth. Rough in and primer were finished saturday. THEN I did the rough in on the 96 Outback that I bought from my deceased best friend's estate. I have been CHOMPING at the BIT to get back into the SHOPS!! |

Pics are all on CDs. I guess that you could ask Henry, OT or Lady Di about their experiences!! |

One step closer to the next project!! Shot that silly Rabbitt tonight! ( Yea, I took about 20 pics) It took more paint to do the Rabbit than the SVX!! I put 1/2 gallon of Liquid Silver and 3 Quarts of clear!! Mainly because I was changing it from HIDIOUS green to a really nice silver. It shines like a new silver dollar!! There were a few defects that got by me, but I just wanted a sweet looking miser/beater to play with. It's an 81 with 157k on it and nobody has 'loved' it for about 8 years. 50 MPG is not to be ignored. Now I'm going to freshen up the brakes, detail the interior, install some 'tunes' and put front struts on it. |

VW got the brakes tonite, TC3 got the SAWZALL last night! We have a plan. The back half of the car is now a truck. We put a sheet of stainless steel that I had and a Grand Am spoiler for a photo-op. We did the measurements and will be getting the metal that will be used on it next week. We will be building a metal cover for the bed and welding it to the last 6 inches of the hatch that we retained. The hinges will be attatched to a piece that will be welded to the rollbar. The original lock for the hatch will be retained so the key will unlock the cover and allow it to be raised. As soon as the rollbar is installed, the front piece of the roof will be whacked and fitted with pins and latches. We will be leaving a 6 inch band of the original roof attatched to the rollbar, so we will have a strong place to put the latches. We are now at the '6 hour' point of a 2 week 'build'. ( with 40 hours being considered a 'week') The car/truck WILL be at the July 4th run in Cumberland!! It might be in primer, but it will be there! I ran Scott off last night so I could go 'tip a few cans' with member Tuck, that was at OT's house. (I showed OT and Tuck the pics on the camera.) pics will be loaded into photobucket soon! |
What is TC3? I have a NTC3, but that is a nitro rc car.
