New meet!

he he he You all knew I couldn't get past the 48 hour mark from the last meet before I put up a thread on a new one! :D It's what I do!

I'm not jumping the gun or anything though, I seriously want to get something planned far out ahead of time so people can mark their calendars and plan on being there. So it may be over a month away, but these days folks need time to get work off, make sure nothing is going on, etc.

I think the first thing to do would be to figure out an approximate time period to do it in, and then figure out when the most folks can attend with all their existing commitments. Only after that has been established will we make a definite time and start marking our calendars. Then the next step will be location, events, etc.

So I'll start it off with suggesting it be no later than the end of October. That "should" give us clear road conditions over most of the passes (for drive tours and/or folks coming from the East), slightly less chance of rain, and by the time we get this going, some nice fall foliage.

Anyone else care to suggest something different, or narrow that time period down?

Maybe not at the next meet but one later on, maybe when the weather goes south, I'd like to go back to the cart track and do some racing. It's a lot more fun when you have a group of people.

ensteele 08-26-2002 05:55 PM

It seems that most people prefer to go on a Saturday, so we may be able to establish that. How was that for getting something narrowed down? Next!

You know that I am always up for a meet Troy, so it won't make much difference where we go. It would be fun to figure out a drive somewhere that has some back roads that have a fair amount of curves. We should have come back down Chuckanut Drive when you got your wires done in Bellingham Troy. Didn't think of it until we were already part way back.

I will give the meet so more thought.

Yep, I've done Chuckanut Drive a couple times in the SVX and it is pretty fun! :) Bob's Burger and Brew or whatever it is called up in the historic part of Bellingham is a fine establishment. Maybe we could work out some kind of drive involving Chuckanut Drive and some other Skagit County farmlands/water fronts? I wonder how many would be interested, with so many of the members down south?

Chuckanut is a very good drive. It was part of the MG club Tulip Rally when I participated several years ago. One could incorporate La Conner and Fairhaven on the route. Also very good are the side roads of Whidbey Island, away from 525 and 20 but taking in Langley and Coupeville.

oh yeah: the only Saturday in October that I have a commitment is 10/5.

I_Alcyone_I 08-27-2002 09:22 PM

So far im open for any weekend in october. 10/5 is out now we have 10/12, 10/19, and 10/26 left.

another idea:

October Fall Color Loop Around Mt. Rainier

Could meet up in Enumclaw, travel 410 to the White River NPS entrance, take a side trip up to Sunrise, up to Chinook Pass for look at Tipsoo Lake, down to Ohanapecosh, up the Stevens Canyon Road to Paradise, where we could have lunch at the Visitors Center, out the Nisqually gate and up 161 and 162 through Kapowsin, South Prairie, Wilkeson and Buckly back to Enumclaw.

Mt. Rainier

That sounds like a really great idea! A nice scenic fall colors loop, and maybe close enough to all our MIA Tacoma members to rouse them out of hiding. :D

I have personal interest since I've lived in WA 30 years, been an avid hiker and sight seer, and yet I've never been that close to Mt. Rainier!

So I give a thumbs up to the idea, with a few concerns: a) I have no idea where pretty much any of those places are (including the starting point) so good directions and maps would have to be made. b) when does it start snowing around there? Would we be snow-free if we scheduled for October?

Never been that close to Mt Rainier? Son, we gotta get you out more often!:D

Maps and directions: easy. Can do. We'll get ya there & get ya back. Haven't lost one yet!

Snow: October can be quite good, with cool mornings and afternoons but sunny days. I have, however, encountered snow during an October day hike above 5000 ft. Was not enough to stop me from driving and was pretty to boot.

Anyone else? Questions? Comments? Ideas? (...hello?)

ensteele 09-07-2002 11:03 AM

Anyone else interested? Guess who! Yep, I know it is surprising, but count me in. Sounds like a lot of fun. I will watch for more details. :)

I_Alcyone_I 09-07-2002 11:59 PM

Sounds good to me. I used to live in eatonville which is pretty close to mt ranier, but i've only been there once or twice. Count me in.

Earl

Earl - maybe it is time to break out THE LIST. (dramatic music)

How about emailing everyone to give the opportunity for input on dates. Looks like the location is pretty much set. We have 3 Saturdays in October to chose from the everyone so far here seems to be ok with. October 12, 19, 26. Offer those 3 dates and tell them what is up. Maybe you will get some response.

ensteele 09-10-2002 03:11 PM

Are you saying - "make it so #1"? Ok, I will do an email tonight to everyone with those options. Look for your email near a computer near you. :D

Actually, I want to be #1 and you can be the captain! (our hair amounts and ages work out better that way! :D :D :D ) Just kidding. Plus I don't like being in charge!

Cool, thanks for doing that Earl. We'll get the troops motivated one way or another!!
