4.44 swap

Has anyone had a 4.44 trans break down after a swap? (after a short time?)

Re: 4.44 swap

if you get a good used 4.44, maybe not.

if you get a bad used 4.44, yes.

my yellow one was swapped for 4.44 twice,
after the stock 3.54 differential went out.
first swap, after few hundreds miles, it started
making noise again. second swap, it's good
at the front but the rear-end started whining,
so i didn't feel like putting more money and
labor into it.

they are people who swapped a 4.44 and lasted
for a good while. so it's all depend if you have
a good swap and get a good one imo.

Re: 4.44 swap

Is there anything that needs special attention on my next 4.44 swap?
Previous owner swaped the original tranny with another (it failed):(
I had it rebuilt (it failed after 50K)
I had it recently swaped for a 4.44 (it failed after 40 miles!)
I do have an external cooler and filter.

Do you have matching tires?

Re: 4.44 swap

Yes, I do. I do not take short cuts. I have taken care of this car since day one. I put over $10K into it just to keep it as a weekend vehicle. I drive locally and do not push it. This is the last thing besides a paint job needed.

No offense ment...
Just stating another reason for premature tranny failure.

But with a used tranny, you never know how the previous owner treated it....

Re: 4.44 swap

The torque converter needs to be installed properly, or it can take out the front pump, likerightnow!
When it is seated properly, the mounting pads are about 3/8" recessed into the bell housing.
