5mt DETONATION!!!!!

well..... it finally happened, the 5mt blew to peices. JUst pulling out of a light and kablewie!!!!!! trans went to crap and I lost all of my gears. Got a bad feeling about what happened inside but won't know until I pull it apart. Depending on things, I could go 6mt if i can find one for the right price. I need to do some shopping. Well wish me luck and if anyone is feelin froggy they can send some generous donations my way :D

Tom(doesn't look like I will be drag racing next week :( but hopefully i will be ready for june2nd)

Darn Tom. My advice would be to find a used 5MT that uses the same cable set-up that your current trans has. That way, it'll be a quick and simple swap. Then work towards converting to a hydro system and an eventual 6MT!

P.S. I'll have some 1/4 mile times for you by next Friday. They'll be in the heat (definitely a lot warmer in VA than the 40* Bwana had on his runs) but they'll be able to give me a baseline...

cool news for you.

I may pick up another cable but i dunno if i wanna keep ripping transmissions in and out. One swoop and be done is my modo. I gotta find out what kinda money I am working with and I will base my judgement off that. The plan is to rip the case open and see whats going on. If it is done for, I will probobly convert to hydro and get a 4.11 trans that is stronger like that forester trans u were talking about and phil has. If I can get my hands on a 6mt I may shoot for it but right now it looks like im gonna stay 5speed.

Go for it Tom. If you convert to a hydro 5MT, you'll be sticking with trannies that have 4.11 gears correct? I know the older Forester 5MT's were 4.11...

You're a man just like me Tom - when my Impreza 4.11 trans broke, I saw it as an opportunity to upgrade to 4.44's. You're using this as a way to switch to a hydraulic clutch system and a stronger 5MT or even a 6MT which is way cool!!!!

I will be out of school next monday so I will have plenty of time to work on it. I just need to worry about getting parts in time. I gotta find a junk yard with a donor.

Ok, did a little research and turned up very little 4.11 pull style transmissions with 4.11 gears.

Only 2 US 4.11's the Legacy turbo GT MY05 Code:ty757vbaab
That same trans code is used for the US Legacy GT MY04

The other 4.11's I found on Ralispec are all JDM. If anyone has any more information about 4.11 transmissions that are stronger than your average Joe please feel free to drop me some knowledge. If PhastSVX is reading, Phil what trans do you have in your car? Pull or push style clutch?

Why is that? Personally there are a lot of things on the car.... Lets say... Well I would have done them differently, if ya catch my drift.

I need a new trans :(
