How-To Locker

Hi

Just wanted to let members know that I have added lots of How-To's, to the locker. If anyone has one that they want added, or need one to do something, please let me know. Some of these have had some edits done to make them better.

For example, the PS O ring replacement now has the OE O ring size listed so you can buy other than OEM O rings. :)

Here is a link to it.

Earl

Thank you, that is simply fabulous, great amount of information.

Couple of things come to mind; how come we do not have a link to this above with the others, Personal Lockers, Message Archive etc.?? Could be simply called How-To Locker.

A serious omission, least I could not find it, is any reference to adding an additional ATF cooler. The Why, How and Where, Series or Parallel, With or Without a filter. This is one of the things we recommend to every new member, yet there is no How-To.

Both are good ideas. I will get on that! Thanks for the ideas. :)

More bright ideas.

Earl

That whole How-to business is a great success, and I have come upon another idea, based on a problem tracked down on the Euro/UK board.

See

You will notice it is basically different from the How-to locker, which shows people how to tackle specific tasks.

This one shows how a particular problem was noticed/diagnosed, suggestions for fixing, and the actual cure.

An additional mod could be the adding of the link to the thread where the problem was traced and fixed.

Worth doing??

Joe:)

Would a folder in the How-To Locker work for that? It would have a subject and then when you brought up the topic it would list the link or links to it. I will try it with the speedo cable to show you what it would be like. :)

Ok - here is what I did.

Go to the How-To Documents and you will see in the top left side of the how-tos a folder that is "A link to threads on fixes" - say that 3 X fast!

Click on it and you will see a file on speedometers and cables.

That is what I did. Let me know if we add files in that way that it would help. I did a search on the same topic and added additional threads pertaining to the same subject. I don't know if that is what you had in mind, but this is something that might help. :)

Thanks Earl,

That's very good, you have improved on the idea. Putting in the links allows the people with problems to find quickly the area where the problem and fix was discussed. Good on ye!

A couple of negative points. I would confine the file to "fixes", that is, problems that were defined, chased down, and subsequently fixed by the member, with help from the "ones who know"

More importantly, you have used Adobe Acrobat, and none of the links in any of the files work for me. Why did you use it? The stupid little hand blinks, but the links remain dead.

I am not a fan of Acrobat, the only thing it does any good is format for printing, in my book. Government agencies use it a lot here. I have a slow connection, and find it mega frustrating. It does not tell you a progress report on loading, eg 5%, !0%, or even loading...loading..., and you will see nothing till everything is loaded. I have spent forever waiting on things to load, only to find the delay was a graphics heavy front page or two, followed by a measly few pages of information. GGGRRRRRRR.

As you can see, I am not a big fan. Please please, un-Adobe it.
Say that 3x times quick.

Joe:)

I will un-Adobe it. I used it because some members do not have Word and most or all have acrobat and would be able to read it. It is much easier not to change everything. I will post them in Word and see what happens.

Good point on the problems that are chased down. I will confine that to them. If you have or come across some, let me know. :)

Thanks Earl.

That works.

Sorry for the rant earlier, I have no patience with things that do not work. Having contact with the "die rather than wear a tie" brigade of programmers [that's every last one of them, BTW], I tend to regard each non working link as a verification of my suspicion that they are being paid way, waaaay too much money. It should not require a degree in lateral thinking to have a link work when you click it.

Are you a Mac person, by any chance? I am thinking of changing over. Macs seem to do the things you expect them to do when you ask them to do a task. These Windows and PC people seem to have trained up on "games" so much, that real world capability has lost a lot of it's relevance.

Will do.

Have a number that are models for this format. Will write down a few, and see if I can remember or find the threads.

Joe

I am not a Mac person - and don't think I will ever be.

Thanks for the feedback. Send me some stuff and I will get it posted. :)

Thanks Earl.

You do understand I didn't mean raincoats.

Give me a day or so on the "fixes"

I have a couple in mind, and I suppose the most relevant ones are the problems that do not offer an obvious clue to the uninitiated. Or to the newbies either.:)

Joe:)
