When did you fell for the SVX?

Well, I fell for the SVX in '91, when I was in college. It was my "car" to get, cause it was different and I wanted car mix with sport and luxury.:D

I had been looking at them for several years, but when I drove one, I fell head over heals! :)

i guess i would have to say i fell in love with the car the first time i saw one in real life. i had seen them in Gran Turismo 2 and on the net, but acouple years ago i saw a Laguna Blue Pearl SVX in the parking lot of my high school and i was amazed, i think im supposed to thank dengue because im pretty sure it was his car, and if its not his then that means theres 2 blue pearl svx's near me :D. but ever since then ive been trying to find any SVX i could, and i finally bought my '92 Ebony acouple months ago.

When i was 10 years old, I went with my father to test drive a 92 svx. I decided then that i wanted one, and my parents opened a savings account for me at that point to save up for one. I got my first svx when i was 18 (a 95) Years later, I'm still an SVX fanatic!

I fell in love when I realized it was the coolest Subaru ever built. I wanted a 2.5 RS, then I realized I could get 100 more HP, better looks, 6 cylinders, cool windows, a sunroof, and leather interior all for about $10,000 less (at the time) and have the same insurance rates as my mom's '96 Legacy. It wasn't really one point...just kept finding out more and more great things about it. I do remember the icing on the cake was when my mom and I were at Target. We were walking in and there was a silver one sitting in the lot. That was kinda when I decided I had to have one. Now, after 5 years of ownership, I still love it!!

I had just started driving and was stopped behind a red SVX at a stop light. I didn't know much about cars back then (not that I do now) and it was actually the exhaust pipes that really caught my attention. Then I realized that I had never heard of a Subaru SVX. My family has always been huge Subaru fans, I think we have owned 9 between all of us, and I was surprised to see one that I had never heard of. I went home and researched it and thought it was pretty cool. It wasn't until 3 years later when I really realized how unique the car was that I decided it was perfect for me.

I really dont know how i ended up with mine, ive been a huge subaru fan my whole life, but i never imagined that i could own one at the age of 16. I was driving mk3 supra turbo around and I was thinking about selling it because i didnet want to change the head gasket that would inevatbly blow after i helped my frined change his on his supra. So my friend called me up one night and said he found one cheap with a blown auto. So we went down and drove it back a couple days later with out reverse and swaped a 5spd in it, and I sold my supra for it. I knew alot about them, and it was on my"really want to own" car list but i never thought i could. So far its been fun and i would do it agian if given the chance.

You guys are all way too young..... why should SVXs have been your first experience?

UberRoo 09-12-2004 11:47 PM

I haven't fallen for it. I just like it a lot. "It's not you. It's me." :) I think Subaru really has their act together, and has for quite some time. I wanted AWD, I wanted performance, and I wanted luxury. The SVX fit the bill. Every other Subaru comes up short in the luxury department, and since they don't seem to know how to make a good-looking car, the SVX has that much more going for it, thanks to Ital Design.

I went for a ride in one when I was quite young. I wasn't impressed at the time. I believe that even today it is Subaru's flagship - whether they like it or not.

That new Saabaru has me intrigued. Anybody checked one out? Saab clearly took control and did wonders for the exterior aesthetic. I think it's much prettier than the WRX. I wonder if Saab did anything else to polish it off. Deplasticizing the interior, and tightening up every last moving part would be a major improvement. Saabs have always felt nice, even if their engineering would frighten Da Vinci. Like the SVX, this oddity has fallen far from the tree, and has been all the better for it.

Yeah, all these kids.
Oh wait, I hope I'm not one of them! :(

The SVX was my first real car - before it I was borrowing my mom's old Saturn. I fell in love when I first saw a picture when I was researching cars to buy and was amazed that it was a Subaru and in my price range. I didn't love the first or second SVX I test drove (too many probs), but when I met and drove the third I fell in love. It took 6 months and two drives across state to find her. After I bought it I emailed the guy I was dating, told him "I can't believe it, I've finally met the love of my life. I've never felt this way about anyone. She's so beautiful! Her name is Su and she's 12-years-old, black, a tad heavy, 2 door awd...." :D

i was 15 with a 95 legacy and saw the svx on the net when i was looking for parts. in love ever since. to bad theirs no common law marrage in md otherwise me and the svx would be getting hitched soon.

FlagstaffSVX 09-13-2004 03:25 AM

5 years ago I was 16 and I was looking for an Impreza in the classifieds when an SVX showed up... I asked my dad about it since it was half the cost of the 2.5 RS I was looking at and he told me it was "that car with the funky windows."

Eventhough the taillight was cracked and the bumper was dented, I still fell in love and remain in love to this day. Only now, it feels more and more like a marriage because I'm constantly getting pissed off at her when she leaves her Emergency Brake light on, or when she leaks oil in the driveway, or when I need to fill up her coolant every month, or when........

:D

Matthewmongan 09-13-2004 03:50 AM

yeah i feel the same way. i fight with my car (an inannimate object) more than anything else. i guess im weared. i talk to it to

Odepaj - "The only man alive who drives a "Subu SVS".......according to my insurance company"

The first insurance card I got for it said "Suba SUX"

i remember when the SVX came out and liking it, but i never dug the "mock headlight" and two-tone paint. then i saw a black '97 about four years ago and said, "yes! that looks NICE!"

two years later i get tired of doing the garage-queen fun car/winter beater car routine, after being just married and buying a house, so i needed one car that is easy on the eyes, drives and handles well, has decent power, and goes in all weather, at a price i can afford. then i remember the SVX.

i did my research, and then i got scared a little......burning transmissions, warping rotors, screaming wheel bearings, oh my!

then i saw a black '97 for sale on Autotrader a few hundred miles away........after the guy e-mailed me about 60 pictures of every chip, scratch, and speck of dust on the car, i agreed to buy it (sight unseen - WTF am i doing??!?!?!?) he had all the records and receipts, and it was still under powertrain warranty......

probably the dumbest, riskiest thing i ever did, but i'm so glad i made the plunge! :) after 2+ years of ownership, its never let me down, and cost me a grand total of $80 for repairs (which i knew about before purchase), not including routine maintenance. contrary to my initial trepidation, its been the most reliable, worry-free car i've ever owned.

i will probably be selling it in the next 2-3 years, because its kind of impractical for me. i'm mostly in suburban traffic, and don't really need a heavy grand touring highway cruiser (this is my second big GT  ). i'll probably be getting an STi (and replacing the shopping cart wing and those god-awful multi-spoke wheels ;) ). i'll always remember the SVX fondly as the reliable tank that got me home in the snow without worry as SUV's were sliding off the road all around, and looked good doing it.
