Gas gauge

I recently noticed somewhere in the forums that the gas gauge in the '92s has almost 4 extra gallons when it reads empty. I checked in mine and I have almost 5 1/2 gallons left. Is there any way to fix this besides buying a new gauge? (I'm too lazy to go buy one;))

That is not just the 92s. That's for ALL SVXes. That is because of the design of the tank and you can't really do anything about it. You can re-adjust the gauge by pulling the pin out when the first light comes out and pushing it back to E.

I like that luxurious 'feature'0. Oh no! I'm out of gas! Good thing this luxurious SVX has extra gas left. :D

Last time I went to the gas station I had to fillit up 16 gallons.
How large is the tank again? 18? 18.9 gallons?

svxistentialist 12-21-2002 02:21 PM

Full tank

accordingto the '92 Owner's Handbook Henry, it's 70 litres or 18.2 US galls.

By my calculations if 70 litres is correct, it would be equivalent to exactly 18.5 US galls.

Running it down to 16 galls refill is cutting it fine I think.

I'm still wondering why someone would want to fix that feature. After all, we have disscussions about the damage that you can do to the engine or the stuff that can be drug through the filter if you drain the tank too empty. Isn't nice that when it is "empty" there is still enough for an emergency or to keep from pulling that possible goop out of the tank? I think that it is a great feature to know that there is like a reserve tank for emergencies. If you are uncomfortable with it...pretend it is a 16 gallon tank and when the light comes on you are empty fill it up and go on about your business!

gas tank details

Could a couple of you folks tell me what sort of regular range you get to a tankful: say 50-50 city hiway?

Sort of, I fill up every 400, 450, 500 miles on average (whatever)

Thanks

Hotshoe

I fill up every 300-350 miles on avg. and 350-370 on highway.

The pump always sucks from the bottom no matter how much or how little fuel is in the tank. Same with water in the tank - it's heavier than gas and will always be at the bottom.

I fill up every 180-220 miles :(

I unfortunately have run out of gas about 10 times in my SVX. I try not to do that anymore. But what damage can be done to the engine by doing this?

i fill it when its empty. i don't watch miles/gallon because i would still fill it up no matter what i get. i deal with the fact that the gas mileage is OK but not great - a heavy AWD car. one less thing to calculate in my coconut...:p

I knew that there would be a response about the disscussion....As I too listened to the disscuission and read it throughly I still was not convinced that the pump in one section of the bottom of the tank is as likely to pull the concentration of that "goop" through the pump on a full tank as when the car is near empty. As we all know the car does move and sway back and forth as it moves. When the tank is full there is plenty of area for the "goop" to move, up down side to side...etc. The lower the fuel level the more concentration of the contaminents seem to go tward the pump... Either way it is still a good idea to keep more fuel in the tank than to run it completly empty.

get 200-220 on the street, 400 on pure highway

Hmm...does anyone notice how the only people who get in the less than 300 out of a tank bracket are 1992s? Hmm...is there truth to that faulty knock sensor argument?

PS - I NEVER got more than 260 out of a tank.

$VX 12-21-2002 07:52 PM

I have no idea. I have a 92 and I get 250-350 miles to a tank.
