winter reminder
just a friendly reminder, especially for us lucky jerks that get snow, to:
-check your tire pressure, tread, rotate? -check/replace your coolant and other fluids -clean/replace wiper blades -park wipers in winter pos. soon -check/fill wiper fluid -lube power antenna -check battery, clean terminals -check/replace air filter and belts -check/fill turn signal fluid:) anything i'm forgettin'? |
Yup - a blanket and a thermos full of Chivas. A cell phone and the number to Hooters. (you thought I was going to say AAA, didn't you?) :) Hey, if you're going to be late getting home why not be a few days late? :p

I always wanted to market a blinker fluid resevoir, where you would actually put in a conductive fluid so if the fluid was gone, your blinkers wouldn't work. That'd be awesome. :)

The current brake rotor thread points to a site that strongly recommends flushing the brake system with clean fluid to get rid of any water in the system. Not too difficult once the car is jacked up for a tire rotation.

There a serious blinker-fluid shortage here in Atlanta! CJ |

I agree with the Chivas but not being a few days late. I think it's more fun to be a few nights late. The beautiful naviguesser constantly tells me; "I don't know why all you guys run out for hamburger, when you can have filet mignon at home." I, of course sing my reply as follows: " You deserve a break today, so get out and get away...." Larry III |

Now for the proof.... damn it where did she run off to this time? Lwin |
This is not so much for you city folks, as it is for us country folk, but I always carry a warm blanket, some hand warmers, extra gloves, stocking hat, extra cell phone batt (charged), some emergency munchies (power bars and such), and some water in a heavy duty thermos (has'nt froze yet). I also have an emergency jump start pac good for about 80 jumps, it also has a built in air compressor. I have enough tools to pretty much do anything, and believe it or not I have an extra timing belt too, if I had to, I could change it out on the side of the road. Don't forget extra fluids, brake, coolant, oil, tranny, blinker:D ,and two extra gallons of gas........ bring it on:) Oh yes and there is still room in the trunk. I want to be prepared for anything, I know how bad it sucks when your not, especially out in the middle of nowhere..

I'm remembering when I changed my timing belt in a warm shop with a lift, power tools, workbench, and help from friends. I can't imagine being able to change it on the side of the road, especially in winter.
Hats off to you for that ability. Doug |
Thanks for the reminder, Doug. Those are things we should all do at least monthly (if not weekly), but at this time of year, especially in some parts of the world, breakdowns or non-functioning safety equipment can be fatal.
I put my wipers in winter position about 2 weeks ago during the first snow. If just a little will stick for a while, it'll be time to hit the slopes!!!!!!:D |
