I just got 28 MPG

Yup I slowed down a lot.

I think everyone on the highway is laughing at me.
Look that guy we just pasted.
He sweating to death with the windows rolled up.
It's is such a nice day. Why doesn't he roll the windows down?
I guess the drag is less on the car with the windows rolled up.
It must save gas.
I guess he doesn't have a/c. Maybe he's trying to save gas?
Why is he driving so slow?
Nice car. Too bad it's so slow.

Well not really. :D I have the a/c set to 78degF.

I have been accelerating real slow. The tach stays below 2500 while getting on the highway and below 2000 when pulling away from a TL. I have not been using the cruise control because the rev's go over 2500 and it's not as smooth as my foot in traffic. I know I can get better MPG now because I got this 28 mpg with some stop and go traffic on the highway.

I was getting 23mpg and at 28 mpg that's a 22% improvement. :)

This car is amazing. :)

I have to have a very light touch on the throttle to get this 28 mpg and now fo course it's more prone to the 2-3 flare.

Did I say thanks to "supersonic"?

There is also engine pinging going on at the light throttle while going up hills. Any thoughts on that? O2 and knock sensors are good.

Are you still using 91/93 octane gas?

I too drive conservatively.. I get 24-28.. usually using "vent" unless its really hot out.. The air conditioner has less to do with it than tire pressure and style of acceleration i find. I still use 93.
(i still show off the power to my car buddies though)
Speaking of mileage, my parents both drive Toyota Prii (priuses.. i dunno how to put that.. kinda like SVXi/es) they both get mileage in the 50's (dad 01, mom 04.. hey wait, how come they are getting new cars and i am taking out student loans)
since i'm a college student and living home for a month i love when i can borrow my moms, it is close to SVXness when it comes to unique style.. and twice (or more) the gas mileage.

i've got 38 mpg in the svx w/ a/c on cruising w/ cruise control on the hwy at 90 pretty regulary actually

38?? thats unbelievable.. im not calling you a liar.. but.. how?

Alycone 05-20-2004 11:28 PM

I get 30 to 35 mpg hwy, with a/c at 65 degrees, going 65 to 85 mph (not cruise contr) and stomping it on the onramp but gentle almost all the rest of the time. I think I might be able to hit 38 if I cleaned out my trunk and quit trying to use the ac to refrigerate my car. :)

This car has no drag. In the city we all get screwed. Our cars are whales. But on the expressway, inertia baby! No air will slow us down.

Crash
15 mpg city, 31 mpg xway

Oh and in the past year my ac has been on five maybe six times to clear steam during a hard rain. I would rather sweat it out than get less mpg. Lou. summers-100 deg. 99% humidity.

Crash+SVX=CHEAP

My '92 SVX gets around 22-23 mpg in mixed driving. It usually gets around 26 mph on the highways and 19-20 mpg around town. Iuse 93 octane and hardly ever use the AC. I usually use econ or vent. Now that it's spring I love to drive with the windows & top open. In the next few weeks I will check to see if the new 17" wheels make any appreciable difference in the mpg.

The '97 averages about 23-24 mpg in mixed and about 28 mpg on the highway. It always did get about 2 mpg more than the '92.

We have no idea what the '94 averages. We don't drive it that much.

Earl maybe you can shed some light on the mpg for different model years and versions.

That is fantastic :D Have you done anything special to the SVX or any other thoughts on how you get this would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have any idea how you get this mileage? What speed does your SVX idle at? I think mine may be a little high. What tires are you using?

SVXer95 05-21-2004 07:20 AM

I am not trying to burst anyone's bubble or disprove any claims, but....

To know true gas mileage it is essential to calibrate your speedometer and odometer. Also, use the number that you put back into the car as read from the pump. Not having the light come on and say its 18 gallons.

It would be wonderful to get 38 mpg @ 90 mph. However, I find it pretty unbelievable. Possibly a typo? Did you mean 28?

The highest mileage I have ever recorded was approximately 28. This was fueling up at a gas station right off the highway and driving straight through with no stops at 75-85 mph with no cruise, no ac.

Given that the EPA numbers are 17/24, I doubt the SVX could get 38. Maybe if you were going 45 in od? I dunno.
