I hate blank switches

Hey All,

I really hate looking at blank "dummy" switch covers. I've got all the switches in all the holes for the us cars, except the one to the right of the steering wheel. I even got the factory seat heater switch (with the seat heaters). Does anyone know of a place where I can get the switch cover for either the headlight jets or the rear fogs? I think the illumination bulb is wired so I can just get the cover and put the bulb in. Maybe someone has a friend that has access to the part numbers in the uk or somewhere and could get me the part number?

i was looking at that on the right side of the wheel yesterday and yeah, those dummy black covers just bum me out, it makes you feel like you're missing something, even though i'm not.

but if u have an lsi is there wiring ready to go behind it? or the possibility of hooking some auxiliary feature to it?

Conn SVX 09-09-2007 06:33 AM

What was it for?

No, there isn't.

Gr8Dane 09-09-2007 02:57 PM

haha ok i didn't think there was, but judging by my past experiences with cars, anything seems possible

I just want the blank switch and for it to light up. I know it's wierd but I just hate that blank.. they are easy to install if i could just get the part number for the switch cover.

Have you checked for the parts number in the How-To Locker? We have a full set of pages that show the parts and numbers. :) Here is a link to the lists.

Yes I have. Problem is it would have to come out of a non usa spec book, and the book wouldn't show just that cap.

I think I may be onto something. If you look at all the part numbers for the switch caps, they are all 83003PAXXX. I don't think the parts for other countries will come up on subaruparts.com, and you can go down the list of switches (security is 000, 010 is blank, 020 is rear defog, 030 is hazard, 050 is front fog, 060 is cruise, 080 and 090 are the caps that go on either end of the switches. That leaves 040, which comes up as a bad number and 070 which just says "knob". Maybe someone in the uk has access and can check and see if 83003PA040 is a good number for them, that would be it i'm sure. I may call myself tomorrow, if no one can help me on my obsessive little quest :D

Thanks everyone.

Ask svxcess about it, he seems to know a lot about the little differences in parts from country to country. And he is equally obsessive about stuff like that! :)

I know he's ordered European and JDM parts in the past, not sure if he had a catalog or how he sourced his numbers.

If you think that's bad, try a new model Subaru. My mom's Forester has six buttons to the left of the steering wheel. Only two are used (fogs and wiper defrost), the other four are blank covers.:(

Looks like you were correct in your obsession, Nifty:

Update: The part number(83003PA070) for the rear fog light knob comes up as no longer available. Just in case anyone else ever tries. Hopefully I can get one of the headlight washer ones from overseas.

Even if you get a cap, it won't light up at night. There is no circuitry for a lamp in that inner most switch.

Here is the complete list of covers. I have been compiling it for the last month or so.
83003PA000 SECURITY
83003PA010* DUMMY
83003PA020* REAR DEFOGER
83003PA030* HAZARD
83003PA040* HEADLAMP WASHER
83003PA050* FRONTFOG LAMP
83003PA060* CRUISE
83003PA070* REAR FOG LAMP
83003PA080* ROUND END CAP
83003PA090* CAP - RIGHT OF WHEEL
83003PA100* CAP - LEFT OF WHEEL
83001PA150 SEAT HEATER RH
83001PA160 SEAT HEATER LH
83003PA170* IMMBI INDICATERI

Maybe not, the metal contacts for the bulb appear to be there. Anyway, I want one of the knobs anyway. The only number that shows up good was the rear fog light one but I was told it was no longer available when i ordered it.

Hopefully I'll get one someday, maybe i could order one from over seas?
