Tranny shifting help

Hey guys new to the list just found it when I was searching the internet for some help with my 92 SVX.

The problem I have is that the car will not shift out of first gear. Not the gear selector but actually when in drive it won't shift out of first and wont go to any other gear. Also when this happened I have lost the read out on my speedometer.

My first guess is some electrical part on the tranny like a speed sensor. But I just don't know anything about this car and don't have a clue where to start looking.

I'm a strong mechanic but usually work with classic cars that don't have any computer controls and sensors so this one has me stumped..

I have located a complete SVX in a local junkyard so I can get some good used parts. I'm also willing to buy new parts as long as I know for sure which item It needs.

If anyone can help Please do. I love driving this car and already miss it.

Thanks

The speed sensor is on the passenger side of the bell housing close to the dif gear oil fill/dipstick. I bet there is probably even a how to or some instructions and pictures for replacing it on the network but I don't know where.

Welcome to the site :)
Check the how to documents link listed at the top right corner of this page.
Also you can do a search in this Technical forum.
Hope that helps.

Pop the kick panel on the driver's side and you'll have access to the diagnostic connector and the test probes. Download the "how to" document on using them and see what codes the car is throwing. Once you've got the codes, you can post back up for some help addressing them:cool:

The transmission will not shift out of first without a signal from the speed sensor. Pretty sure that is your problem
