I just bought my first svx and am having it shipped over from california. I was reading through the T.S.Bs and it said for transport the vehicle should be placed in neutral with the parking brake firmly applied to prevent engine dammage, so I relayed the message to all necessary personnel to do this obviously important procedure for transport, they said no problem then. I recieved a phone call after the fact, saying that my car had been loaded and they could not follow my request to put the car in neutral with parking brake on they said it was too dangerous to let it travel that way,so what do I do, is it nothing to really worry about or should I tell them to unload it and find a different way????? What do I do. I did not actually talk to them,they left a message on my machine, it did say that the parking brake is applied and it is left in park...anyway I am left wondering and I need some advice, any is appreciated------thanks :confused: :confused:

Congrats on your first SVX, and by the sound of things, you intend to take good care of it.

However, I don't know where you got the notion the car should be in neutral for transportation, this is totally incorrect.

Your transport guys are quite correct here It is not safe to transport the car with the tranny in neutral. If the parking brake was inadequate, the weight of the car would overcome the lashing ropes, and do damage to the car/transporter.

Page 2 of the '92 Service Manual says on

2. TOWING:

a) Transport vehicle using a dolly or flat-bed truck whenever possible
b) Place the selector lever in "P" position and apply the parking brake.

thanks for the reply, I feel much better now. I found the info at the svx links at top of this page under technical service bullitens in tie down procedures.... kinda confusing

I have just read that bulletin, it is dated '97, and the conflict is confusing all right.

Still I would go with the safety instincts of your transporters. A very good compromise would be to ask them to ensure the parking brake was very firmly applied, as per the bulletin. This will ensure that any movement of the car will not be shocking the tranny, which is the harm that is to be avoided. A safe and well tied down car is not going to move very much, your shippers will see to that.
