Power Steering RAD
2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, just wanted to share a small mod I have done two months ago.
The roads over here are mainly uphills. Each time I get home, I see power steering fluid dripping underneath the car. I open the hood and there it is, fluid pouring from the cap. Bought a new cap from Subaru, same thing happening, no change. I started thinking about boiling oil causing this. So I replaced the DEX3 type oil with DEX 6 type since it can withstand heat better. Now my oil surge was much less than before, so I am sure it is a boiling oil thing. Went to a local "Japanese Cars" breaking yard and picked a P/S cooler out of a Honda CRV. The difference with ours is that it comes with cooling fins. Here is the SVX Cooler (Lower left): http://www.mileoneparts.com/media/im.../7/7600064.gif And here is the Honda Cooler: http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/189377...5_IMG_0372.JPG Yes it took some tinkering and custom fitment, but NO MORE fluid pouring out of the cap. A $10 mod :) |
Re: Power Steering RAD
Good one. The SVX cooler is a bit of a joke.

They sure do leak though after 22 years of salt and heat.

Re: Power Steering RAD
Well mine never leaked, just didn't cool the system.
