Viscous LSD?
Hellos,
the SVXes use a viscous LSD, right? http://www.cars101.com/subaru_svx.html Reading a bit about that, Wikipedia claims the viscous diff center has basically failed by 60.000 miles and must be replaced. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential If it is indeed VLSD, what are your experiences with this? Did you ever change your diff center, did you notice any difference etc Cheers |
Re: Viscous LSD?
At 197,000 miles, mine still works.
Wikipedia isn't exactly the place I'd source for car information, plus that's probably in a general case. |
Re: Viscous LSD?
I think it depends a lot on how much abuse it gets. If the rear tires are different diameters, then it would fail more quickly, etc. I wonder if there's a way to test it to see how well it's working.

Re: Viscous LSD?
So just inspect and change the fluids as according to schedule and bob's your uncle?

Re: Viscous LSD?
Yes, and use the Subaru LSD gear oil.
These guys sell it: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f14/t1188...l-bottles.html Email them and tell them you want just the LSD oil, they seem like good people to deal with. |
Re: Viscous LSD?
I thought the center diff on the automatics was a clutch type?
|
Re: Viscous LSD?
We're talking about the rear diff.

Re: Viscous LSD?
Thanks a lot, folks.
