What to do with extra DIN slot?

the car is doing great so far
500 miles gone by with only $20 maintenance costs! way above my expectations:D you guys scared the sh#t out of me the first time i asked about reliability!:P

so i got my new stereo and now i have an extra DIN slot which i'm not sure what to do with. i don't wanna leave it empty so i was thinking about building/(buying?!) a couple of 12v and 115v sockets for tha slot

has anyone done it or seen one? where can i get a solid electricity cable from? is it possible to build such a thing in a neat way?

I was thinking this would be good for mounting gauges for ATF temperature, ATF pressure and oil pressure:

That is what you get when you go to a site that is for people to share their troubles with. When we have a problem we come here for help. The owners of the great running SVX'es are out driving them... no problems to report... not trying to find a cure for some problem! You should be fine! Great well-made cars and the Safest cars on the road.

I've seen the cup holder jobs that go into the second bin of a stereo bay but not on the SVX... not sure they would even fit but it would be nice if they did... since you know, cup holders lol

I did some in one of the SVX's I've had...worked OK for cans, but not for cups, as the cubby sets to far back in the dash....I used an early Legacy cup holder....I think there is some pics in my locker of it.

1 Attachment(s)
This is what was done on mine . Volt , Tran temp., and vacuum Gage
IMHO The SVX is no more expensive than any other old car to keep up , maybe less. a friend has an MG midget and is constantly working on it another friend has a 90 T bird and it has problems. I have been driving SVX for many years . I have had fewer problems than a friend has had with his 04 BMW in the past 3 years . Hard part about the SVX is parts availability verses the other 2 above mentioned cars.

Nice set of gauges! I have the slide in cubby hole in the lower part of my SVX with single DIN stereo, and use it constantly for "stuff"...Would miss that catch all if i went for the gauge combo there...

+1 I would put a cubby hole. There aren't many places in this car to store the little "stuff" that life is made of, and my center console has been turned into a cupholder.

Don't u have the tray under the pass seat?

Re: What to do with extra DIN slot?

my center console is gonna be my cup holder and i don't really need to see the ATF temp or do i?!
but i need lots of electricity! phone charger, GPS, laptop charger and ... and i don't like to have those huge power distributors

btw is installing a trans fluid cooler a DIY kind of job or needs to go to the mechanic? does it make a difference?

and on the reliability i agree with all the comments!:D i mean at least mine is doing as good (if not better) as friends' 07ish cars! it makes lots of noises but i'm making peace with them so no biggy

Wow! I forgot about that tray! Thanks for the reminder.
As a non smoker, I have considered modifying the ashtray for a trans temp gauge, even bought a spare ashtray to hackup.

True but it's more difficult to get to, and I'd be afraid of little objects (lug nut key for example) bouncing out of it.

that looks like it would be a wiring job that would take most of the weekend if not better.....
and for the tray under the passenger seat that would make a great poll what do member store in their.
it would make a 4 o'clock 20 min. sorrage area if i did that.....

I have my child seat retainer clip my owners manual and SVX leather bound book. Freed up glove box space. I guess the PO did all that when he put in the radio and all new Bose speakers . A lot of time and love was put into this car .

+10!
But I would add ATF temp, engine oil temp, and a numbered water temp.
Our water temp gauge can be "below normal" and still have 238° f temp!
