rebuilding tranny, wat needs to be done?
 

wasup everyone, yesterday i bought my first svx (we had one before but it was my dads.) i bought a 92'dark teal LS with 114,000 miles and a bad tranny for $1000. i got some tranny shop to rebuild my tranny for $800. what i wanted to know was what should i do during my rebuild? im going to put an aftermarket tranny cooler in and im thinkin of a stage 1 shift kit, but i heard something about flushing your radiator and changing all your hoses..??? HELP!!! whats all that about and what else should i do to ensure a long life for my car and my tranny/

the reason you may have seen things about flushing the radiator, is because a small section of the radiator is used as a tranny cooler.
If you run only the aftermarket cooler, you woudln't really need to do anything with the radiator. If you run them in series, (the only way i see them both as useful) then you probably would want to flush out that section of the radiator.

or if you have money, buy the aftermarket radiator that the group buy thats stickied is all about. but it's definitly not neccesary. just would absolve the need for an aftermarket trans fluid cooler.

if you get a cooler, you will need some new hose. just get a few extra feet and replace it one line at a time. I forget, but I think you need 5/16" ID transmission line hose - most auto parts stores will stock it. that will be the cheapest part of all you're doing - and cheap insurance against a hose busting in the future - pretty rare to happen, but....
