97 grill color/photoshop request

I just ordered a 97 grill at work today and I don't know what color I should paint it. It's either going to be Barcelona or the tricoat metallic black on the trunk/roof. Also does anyone want to do a quick photoshop of a black grill? Here's a pic to photoshop of Earl's beautiful 94 Barcelone LSi. Thanks

I cant get the color to even look remotely right. Maybe someone else can do it ; ;. But I'd do it red, a black would kind of look out of place.

Ditto on th red. Black from a distance would look about the same as not having the grill in

Seth

I have some pictures of cars with black '97 grilles, but none are fitted to red cars, they are all black.

I'll include them for you because the pictures are clear enough and would give you an idea how a well painted 97 black grill looks. Click on the thumbnails to see larger pictures:

This one looks nice with the clear headlight lens

This one shows how the black grille can "disappear"

This one shows the black grille on a JDM car, and it looks good too.

Stating the obvious, but all 97 car grilles are painted the same color as the rest of the car. I personally think that would look best.

Yea but I just wanted to see what it would look like. I'm probably going red anyway.

I'm inclined to agree with you Lee. Very often the factory look is the best option. Most changes they make are tested by style clinics, so they reject options that don't appeal to people.

If somebody was willing to try a modification I suspect the '97 grille would look best with chromed metal weave at the back in place of the cheapie plastic honeycomb. That would make the grille "come forward" more and have a more racy look to it.

Definately do red on a red car, IMO.

I don't think so. The grille mod on the 100$ thread was for fitting lights to the waterfall.

Well, the grill comes in a black (or very dark grey) color so pop it into the car when it comes to see (kind of)_ what it would look like before you decide...
I agree with most that it should be the red, but this trial will cost you nothing:)

The one I bought came in mid grey Huck.

However, being plastic, it's going to need primer plus color coat plus clear topcoat.

If you gave it an initial coat of black primer you could fit it in place and see how you like the look.

Red is probably going to be the best option though, I think.

Re: 97 grill color/photoshop request

Joe, you actually have to special prep these for paint since they are raw plastic. Like PPG you have to use a special sponge to scuff it, then a special adheasion wipe, and lastly spray it with an adheasion promoter then you can seal, base and clear.
