What year is this REALLY?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=31871

Its listed as a 1992, but I dont think so... my main reason for this is that it has the center console door unlock switch, which wasnt implimented untill 1993... anyone here know the VINs well enough???

It also has teh SVX side badging which wasnt in 92 either...

Seraph 04-17-2003 09:35 AM

It's a 93. But left the factory in 92.

I have a center console (thanks Harry!) that has the center lock switch, that could easily be fitted to my '92. I also have rims from a '95 ("silver" instead of "grey"). IF (which I'm probably not), I installed the console from the 94 (or just cut the hole and intsalled the switch in my '92) and had the 95 rims on, my car could easily be mistaken for a '94 Pearl. It's possible the person just switched consoles and the switch is a dummy or he hooked it up himself. Just a thought.

Ahhh but now we are back to the question of... Has anyone seen a non-anniversay 1993... this would be the fabled beast? Also, its a L... and has grey interior...

no passenger airbag either, so it HAS to be a 92 or 93... I am soo lost here...

benebob 04-17-2003 09:47 AM

Well the seats are cloth so that was 94-96 right? The color looks to be brilliant red not barcelona but thats tough to tell. The wheels as well look like the lighter variety. Now the interior is hard to see but it doens't look like a standard grey L interior. I tried to run the vin in the decoder at work but it came back invalid. I'd say 94 or 95. What makes you think its a 93 Lwin?

Ah the airbag! Didn't look up there. I though the switch was in 94.5 so it could still be an L. They didn't make L's in 93 did they?

This is a bloody 94LE.

Let me get my VIN decoder here:

JF1CX323XRK101362

This is what Chilton's manual has to say about this VIN. Remember we are talking all Subarus from 1990-1996

JF -- Maker ID [Japanese / FHI]
1- Type of vehicle [1= passenger, 2= Miltipurpose pass.]
C - Line [Subaru C line]
X - Body type [D=4dr, K=Station Wagon, X = Coupe]
3 - Vehicle Attribute / Engine type [3.3L]
2 - Model [2= Base, 3= L, L+, 5= LS, LSi]
3 - Weight class and restraint type -- w/o passive rest. and airbag
4 - Check digit ????
R - Year Model Year [ N=2,P=3,R=4,NA=5,T=6]
K - Plant of manu -- Tranny type [K=FWD 4AT, X=Full time AWD 4AT]

I love the ebay sellers.

look at all the busy bees scurrying around, a Dilemma that grabbed attention SWEET!

Tenth digit is R, therefore it's a '94 MY vehicle. Simple as that. :)

Edit: I see that Lwin already caught that.:p

There are a lot of misleading things in the ad. First, I suspect the VIN to be wrong, since it doesn't register as a valid SVX VIN. But I think it's only off by one number - I think it should read X33 instead of X32.

I suspect that this is really a 94 SVX L, and that it's not really AWD as the seller states.

That's the closest match I can find to this car, since you could get a '94 L in Barcelona Red with only one airbag.

Edit:

I totally forgot about the 'LE' trim, and I went by Joe Spitz's site. Thanks for the successful decoding, Lwin.

Man, and I even have a Chilton's manual here at work. :D

Nick,

If you look at my previous post, you will see that this is the LE model 94.

I did not believe in LEs either but my money pit(x33) was a L model. Since then I have seen SVXes with X32 as well and they are the ultimate base, causing me to belive that they are LEs.

Right, but you posted that while I was typing. If you had read my entire post, you would see that I edited it. :D

I LOVE that edit feature :D :D

I sent the guy an "official" e-mail with concerns of misrepresentation. We'll see what happens. :)

thumper_svx 04-17-2003 10:31 AM

Carfax agrees with everyone; it's a 94 SVX LE... and it looks like the mileage is right (last reported 3/26 of this year when it had 185K miles).

Only one known owner since new... been in New Jersey its entire life.
