I've Been Busy... Overhaulin' a Merc
3 Attachment(s)
Yup... long story short, bought a Euro model rustbucket '67 Merc 250SL in April.
Nate helped me getting it (thanks bro, I owe you big time) and still helping me with parts stocking and so... what a friend! http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/3...0709113019.jpg http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/8...0709113035.jpg I started taking it apart little by little, wrapping and labeling its parts and prepping it for hydroblasting and paint. Then I decided to remove the subframes and build a chassis/wheels/stilts for it... the works would definitely be easier and cleaner. Here is how it looks like right now. Getting prepped for hydroblasting, primer then metal sheeting. Wish me luck guys. http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/279...1112041542.jpg |

You got it! I'm curious. How long did it take to receive the car? I send cars to the middle east every so often, but I never hear anything about them after they get dropped off at the dock.
This is going to be a gorgeous car when you're done with it! I just live the timeless styling of these. |

Keep posting pictures as you make progress. Looks like it is going to be a great project.

Re: I've Been Busy... Overhaulin' a Merc
Mike, shipping by sea takes around 21days from the US to the Middle East.
In Lebanon, goods reside at the port between 7 and 21 according to age. Whatever is up to 8 years old, needs a week. Whatever is beyond 30 years old takes three weeks (after taking the car prints, showing it to a value estimator to decide on the customs amount, etc...) In Lebanon you cannot import a car which is more than 8 years old. Only classics are allowed, and they should be 30 years old. Sean, I will definitely be posting pictures of the progress... Ohhh how I would love to show you guys the skills of my bodyshop guy  P.S: This car will be overhauled on the basis of "NO-BONDO" allowed :D |

My Czech mechanic would love to see that when its done:cool:

I will show you all pictures of the progress.
For now, the next step is blasting and primer. Then the car will sleep for a month before going to the bodyshop. |

I love the look of the 'pagoda roof' Mercs. What is up with those headlights? Hopefully you can source some true Euro style lights. Subscribed!

Phase 2 will be Hydroblasting to remove residue of paint remover. Then, the parts residing at Nate's would have arrived to me, the car will go to sheet metal fabricator... this part's pictures will be extremely interesting... ;) |
