Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
Where your hitch hooks to the spare tire well , mine goes back 4 more inches and attaches the the plate seen in the picture . I was afraid the metal of the tire well would not be strong enough. Noticed cracks on yours.

I will get the information and get it into th How-to docs. Please give the information on brand and where they are available. :)

Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
ARO was the brand name here in NZ - but it was a custom fit - only took 4 hours to drop off & pickup ..... total cost was NZ$225.00 (15 years ago!!)

Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
Thats almost exactly how I am going to do mine!:)

Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
Mine is similar except the plate under the spare wheel well is triangular and there's a matching plate inside the wheel well to give it strength. Mine also has a chromed removable tounge.

Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
I read "trailer hitch" and flinched at the thought of an ugly hook hanging out of the back of the SVX until I saw this.
It's very well done and almost looks like it should have been there all along. Great job! |
Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
The way mine is , only 3 bolts and it comes right off, slightly different because it attached to the swing arm not the trunk . You are actually pulling with the Hold downs anyway not the tire well

If anyone is thinking of making one of these, I'd gladly pay for a duplicate.

Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
Photos and exact measurements to follow as early as tomorrow, I am in the process of cleaning it and getting it ready to be put on the Laguna. I have it off the car and I am painting to match the car. This will be a good time to get all the info. I will try to get as much info as I can. The bend may be a shaky one as it was a trial and error when we did it the 1st time . It has to clear the muffler . A good thing about having a hitch , If you ever get rearended the hitch will save the back of the car.

Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
Yes - had mine 1 week when some young punk pulled up a little short - he had a nice hole punched into his radiator & surrounding plastic - not a mark (thank goodness) on my baby - but at the time I did say quite a few choice words as we waited for a tow truck for him......

Re: Trailer Hitch - 7 photos in total
OK I tried to draw it up . The bends are a little tricky. I used cardboard to do the fitting then bent the steel to it. Hope this helps . All the hitch was made from a single piece of 3" wide 1/2 " thick flat stock . I think it was a total of 55" , so a 5' piece is good. Holes were drilled during assembly. U could use thinner steel if you wish. Forgot pictures see next post
