Wheel opinion please

Having gone from the original stock wheels to the BBS JDM wheels, I am thinking about fitting 17” 2014 Hyundai Elantra Limited wheels onto the SVX.

I really like their design and have actually fit one from my Elantra onto the polo to check for tolerances. No issues.

They are 17” x 114.3, +52mm offset and 7” wide. Would I be able to use these on the polo without too much negative effect?

The closest size tire would be a 225/45ZR17. Specs are very close to stock and they should fit on the 7” wheel.

Opinions? I like the look of this wheel. Slightly angled spokes, but not so much that they look odd on the other side of the car.

Yeah looks better than I expected. I don't think I could live with the lack of symmetry from side to side though. I'm sure it's hard to notice, but I would know.

IMO, I dont think they look good. BUT, to each their own.

I like the Hyundai wheels; to me they are a modernized version of the stock wheels. They might even look better than the JDM BBS. Not enough so, though, in my opinion, to swap them out. If you do, though, they will look nice.

Thanks for your opinion. I had the same thoughts about their design.

I was hoping to obtain a bit of technical insights about the effects on safety and handling with regards to putting a slightly narrower wheel on the SVX.

The tires I choose may be too big for that wheel. But going down to a 215/45R17 would have its own issues. Load rating, Speedo errors, contact area.

Larger wheels are usually wider.

Technical insight will have to come from someone wiser than I.

I run 235/45 17 with no issues as far as I know. They are supposed to be the same diameter as stock or very close and you already know there is a diameter comparison chart somewhere out there, maybe one of the online tire sellers.

Sorry I don't have more technical info, I could only speculate.

I've never heard a complaint about tread contact area from anyone running narrower tires but that doesn't mean they didn't have any problems.

I like the stock and BBS wheels better than the Elantra wheels. Also, Rosie says that the Elantra wheels are not bold enough for the SVX. But yours is the only opinion that counts. If you go with the new wheels, I would like to buy the BBS ones from you if you're interested.

Also, compared on a tire size comparison chart. Stock (per my door jamb plate) compared to the size you mention:

215/55 R 16 compared to 225/45 R 17. Diameter 25.3 to 25. Width 8.5 to 8.9. Sidewall 4.7 to 4. Circumference 79.5 to 78.4. Revs/mile 797 to 808.

I compared a bunch of other sizes based on research I was doing today because I have to buy new tires. I looked at other sizes SVXers are using to try and find any complaints. I found nobody really griping about anything but rub with some sizes. My very amateur opinion is that if you drive hard and fast you might notice a slight difference.
