Manual Transmission SVX ?

A few people ( 5-6) have now converterd their trannys to manual 5 or 6-speed units. All of these conversions are based on Subaru transmissions either a WRX or Legacy tranny.

I was wondering about the original Nissan Pathfinder tranny upon which the original SVX tranny was based. The Pathfinder also came with a manual tranny. Maybe these trannys are a better choice. I would assume that they are cheaper yet more robust than SUby trannys because they are from Nissan and for a real off road SUV. Has anyone looked into thiis?

Hello Larry tres

While the 4EAT may have been based on a Nissan design, it was only the internals, not the case. I'm trying to confirm if Nissan trannys will physically bolt to the Subaru engines, but I know that the starter mountin location used by Nissan (motor/solenoid facing toward the front of the vehicle) is not the same as that used by Subaru (motor/solenoid facing rear of the vehicle, top of the trans).

Pathfinders, along with other 4WD vehicles, use a transfer case instead of re-routing the front driveshaft back through the transmission like the Subaru trannys. This transfer case sends power back up to a discreet front axle assembly, again unlike the more elegant, though less robust Subaru system.

BTW- there are more manual transmission conversions out there than you mentioned. I would estimate that there are at least 20-25.
