[HELP ME] Transmission failure SVX

Hi all,

I have still a problem with my automatic transmission. I changed the resistor and the green power light is not flashing more. Great !

But the problem is still the same for the transmission.

I changed the filter too (and the oil of course). What do you think about ?

Which sort of transmission is it ? Do you think I have to change it ?

When I go up to miles the RPM is at 6000...no 4th gear.

When I want to brake the SVX is like swinging... and it looks very dangerous.

HELP ME !

Most of them fail due to overheating. I found this info on transmission types:

Not found...my ID transmission is 517628. My SVX has 90 000 miles.

P-O,

I think you need to re-explain your problems in detail.

1) Are you saying the transmission will not shift into fourth at all? Not even when the selector is in "D" and you lift off the accelerator?

2) In your previous post you said that during a shift the revs go to 4000 and then return to 3000? During all shifts or just 1-2, 2-3 or 3-4? Are you talking about "flaring"? You may want to search that and see if that is what you have.

3) Is your car a "VTD"? On gravel, if you try to spins the tires which tires spin first :-)? Front or rear? If you look from the drivers side, close to where the starter is there should be a sticker on the torque converter housing with a transmission id code. Something like "TZ102Y.....". If the sixth digit is "Y" then you have a VTD transmission. If it is a "Z" then it is an ACT4 transmission.

4) Please explain the braking issue. Are you saying the car "floats" or is hard to control under braking?

Kind regards from Finland,

Tapani

Hello Tapani,

1) Yes, the 4th does not work anymore.

2) 1-2 : RPM >4000 return to 3000, 2-3 : RPM >4000

3) My SVX have a VTD transmission.

4) When i brake on the highway, the car is like swinging.

Best regards from France,

P-O :)

Does the back tires lock up and skid when its.... like swinging?

overheating seemed like a ACT-4 problem it would be strange if that was the case with the VTD.
I dont know if the VTD has the brake band in the transmission like the us cars do but if that is out of adjustment, or bad that could account for the problem.

Re: [HELP ME] Transmission failure SVX

Further: Have all the shift points moved "up" to higher revs or does it feel like the transmission is slipping during the shifts? Do the shifts feel ok?

"Swinging" is a bit hard to understand....

  • do you mean like one or more shock absorbers is not working? How does it feel when you drive over a large bump?

  • or does the steereing wheel shake when you brake

Please explain what you mean by "swinging" :)

I had a discussion with P-O concerning this. As he expressed it, the shifts are abrupt when they reach a certain high RPM (+4000). There is no slipping whatsoever.

I think the swinging comes when the shifts are at very high rpms. The car kicks and swings slightly between gears.

I advised him to tinker slightly with the brake band screw, no effect. Shifting from 1 to 2 is done at 4000rpms, from 2 to 3 at a higher rpm and beyond this the car is barely shifting.. What do you guys think it might be? Mechanical or Electronic?

Thanks Danny, that makes it a bit clearer.

To do the shifts like that it would either have to think, the throttle is wide open, or it can't read the road speed.
So I would go for the TPS, check for a smooth reading through the sweep.

If it has a problem with the rear speed sensor, it should post a code, but.

Harvey.

Is your car OBD I ?

If yes, get the ECUtuner from Mike and you have real time access to the data both in the ECU and the TCU.

The stalling issue in your other thread may point to MAF problems. Search MAF soldering here on the forum.
