In Conn. the 1995 and older go on a dyno type rollers and get tailpipe sniff the 1996 and newer get plugged in. No limit 1 mile a year or 50,000 same test same $20.00. We test every 2 years . After 25 years they leave us alone no test.

Here is a map showing the emissions regions of PA.

The "42 County Region" has no emissions testing at all. The other regions have varying types of emissions testing. The "Northern Region" is simply a gas cap test and a visual inspection for the presence of the factory fitted catalytic converters. The "Pittsburgh Region" uses a tailpipe sniffer test, and the "Central/Lehigh Valley Region" is an OBD2 check. I don't know what the "Philadelphia Region" entails.

Just moved to the "central Lehigh valley region". So they only test ObD2? Not OBD1? My car may stay registered in MD since I won't need inspection yearly.

How many miles do you drive yearly? Under 5K miles gets a free pass on the emissions test. You still have to get a mechanical inspection. At least in PA they actually look at stuff, unlike NJ!

Due to some a hole totaling my other SVX my claret is back to daily driver duty. So more than 5k per year for now. I'm going to try PA inspection. Keeping my fingers crossed. Can I get a PA inspection before I register the car? Currently had MD plates good till July.

No you can't get an inspection before it is register. So are you in the land of snack foods as your location states or the lehigh valley?

she is in the land of snack foods Ben.

You can have it inspected but they can't sticker it.

There is a guy in Manchester MD (Manchester Motors) that can do either PA inspections or MD whatever you do to your car. Might be the person to go see if you have issues with your car passing PA inspection.

Mine has passed emissions every year, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

It's not emissions I'm worried about. How picky are they about the yearly inspections?

I passed my last MD emissions with a CEL and my exhaust broken in half. I don't think that woman gave a crap about her job. Hahaha.
