Jae 2009

Belha and I are taking over from Phil Hill this year. Phil has a new baby girl to keep him occupied. We wish him all the best and point out that it is possible to cram a baby seat into an SVX if you try hard enough.

Anyway, here is the first communication from the JAE organisers.
More information is available from the JAE website http://www.japcarclub.com

Well, what can I say? After some delays waaaay beyond my control we at last have not only an exciting new venue but have stuck with the show being late in the Summer. Well, after the fantastic weather in 2008 what else could we do?

The date wont be to everyone’s liking and I apologise that some clubs will probably already have things arranged that clash. But let’s hope the new venue is even better than last year – if that’s possible! – and that everyone will want to stay with the new venue and enjoy another fantastic JAE.

We have taken all the good things from 2008 and kept them but have now added even more for you to do! If we can keep the weather (minus the midges) we should have a really great show.

The date is now Friday 11 September to Sunday 13 September with Thursday open for clubs who want to get there early and set up. Thursday will be an all ticket affair however to prevent too many gatecrashers and let the club people do their thing and get everything organised. By the way the 10th is my birthday so make sure you bring lots of presents if you’re coming early! J

The venue is now Wicksteed Park , after M.I. and another venue found they could not accommodate us. Wicksteed is a fantastic venue and has a lot to offer (http://www.wicksteedpark.co.uk/default.aspx):

Lake
Go-kart oval
Fully stocked fishing lake
Fairground
Roller coaster
18 hole crazy golf
Putting green
Playground for younger children

Add to that all the things we have arranged for you:

Five-a-side football
Tug of War
It’s a knockout competition
Easing competition
Karaoke
Band
Disco
New and much bigger show n shine!

Then add the new stuff that we are still working on and this promises to take JAE to yet another level!

Booking forms will be available on line very soon and will be emailed out to you. But until then just get it in your diary, book the time off work and start organising your club stands!

See you at JAE!!!!

Hi Phil, Hi Belha

Thanks very much for taking over the organising duty for the annual show.

Also, and importantly, heartiest congratulations to Phil Hill and partner on the arrival of a daughter!

I'm sure everybody who has attended a past show will feel gratitude that Phil has taken the trouble to carry on the paperwork duty for us until now, notwithstanding personal problems and even though he has not had an SVX to run for some years now.

Above and beyond Phil, your friendship and dedication is valued by all. Thank you most kindly and don't be a stranger.

Joe :)

yeah, I'll second that Joe.....well said!

Wasn't my intention to go to this years show if it was going to be MI again, I felt it was a little too isolated and not very good for amenaties.....specially for us die hard campers:rolleyes:
The new venue seems quite clean and accessible, so I'll keep an open mind and see what comes.

Re: Jae 2009

*** SEVEN WEEKS UNTIL JAE ***

I am just about to send off the form to confirm our stand booking. But before I do, I'd like to get an idea how many people are actually planning to come along. I'd rather not be the only one who turns up!

You don't have to make a definite commitment at this stage, just an expression of interest.

PLEASE REPLY BELOW IF YOU ARE INTENDING TO COME TO JAE.

Phil

Re: Jae 2009

Phil

I'm not certain if I can come just yet. As you know times have been difficult. However I will chat to Graham and see what his plans may be for that weekend.

If it's at all possible I would hope to be there, I'll confirm in a couple of weeks when my plans are clearer.

Joe

Apathy

IS ANYBODY PLANNING ON COMING TO THIS SHOW ?????

UNLESS THERE IS SOME INTEREST, I'M NOT GOING TO BOOK THE STAND.

Not going I'm afraid - too busy trying to ride through the recession plus wife not too well. I will sleep on the garage roof tonight as penance if you want.
All the best, Steve.
PS Joe Offer still stands btw.

You got a garage roof? Lucky git. Try doing that on a dog house roof. :p

Steve, I have already told Phil I have to miss this year. Money is one issue and a serious one, but the dates also clash with my daughter's graduation date. If I opt instead for a car show, the dog house roof will be decorated with sticky pitch and broken glass!!  And a broken husband! :o

Thanks for your kind offer. I am disappointed I will not get to meet you this time round.

If nobody opts for JAE, maybe we could try and organise a more personal meeting for a few interested members a little later on, maybe at NEC or something?

Joe :)

Hi Phil

Although it was worth the trip last year to meet up with the small 'band of guys & gals'.... I'll not be able to make the trip this year.....

goes without saying....appreciation for Manning the pumps!

John:)

Re: Jae 2009

OK. I'm not going to book a club stand this year.

Let's all try a bit harder for next year.

Anybody fancy trying a different show next year instead of JAE? I don't know how they compare.

JapFest? http://www.japfest.co.uk/
JapShow? http://www.japshow.co.uk/

Re: Jae 2009

Yes, maybe so Phil.

Perhaps we are too ambitious with a weekend show. It probably clashes with some other thing people have on the Friday or Saturday or Sunday.

Or, more likely, people will not invest the time to come for more than two days?

Maybe we should go for one day only, a Saturday. People can drive from as far as they like, stay Saturday if that suits, go home Sunday.

Also, although our SVXes are as Japanese as it gets, it's possible that the Japanese car shows are populated with too much rice for many people's liking. Why not look to the Goodwood Festival of Speed or something else to broaden the interest? The NEC Classic Car show maybe?

Any other opinions?

Joe :)
