Re: i'm tired of car troubles....

I guess I should look into replacing my brake lines as pm. |
Re: i'm tired of car troubles....

Re: i'm tired of car troubles....
They are definately high maintenance cars.
Between my two I'm always working on something. |
Re: i'm tired of car troubles....
Maintenance is a must for a 19 year old car.
Regular inspections become even more critical. I look at it this way. Cost of new car replaced every x number of years = depreciation cost + any maintenance. = y Old car depreciation of almost 0 + maintenance = z As long as y and z are roughly equal and the car is enjoyable and reliable to drive you have a winner. |
Re: i'm tired of car troubles....
+1 on that. That is a very good way to look at it. The only other way people do it is get a new car before the maintenance starts to increase, but that is very expensive. :o

Re: i'm tired of car troubles....
i found out what happened to my brakes. one of the previous owners replaced the rear lines with ''universal lines''. the idiot put the rear passenger line right next to the strut which caused the line to rub on it. it eventually wore a hole through it....
I HATE STUPID PEOPLE... |
Re: i'm tired of car troubles....
i replaced the rear line today, but now the front driver rubber line broke. i love this car but it is staring to take a toll on my wallet and my nerves.:(

I am tired of car troubles too...This is definitely a love hate relationship.
I just wish the new Subarus were not so damn fugly! I do keep looking at that $179 impreza lease though. I spend more than that on gas in the SVX... I also keep looking at that $229 forester lease.... 10,000/year miles though ... I do 300mi a week ... that's 15,000+ .. sigh. Also hate the idea of using the SVX as my work car during the winter... That is how my 2001 2.5RS met its end...and that is how I became and SVX owner. When I bought my SVX, I bought it as a $2000 beater. I was just going to drive it into the ground while I saved money to buy a WRX swapped RS. Well that plan lasted all of 5mins once I met her in person... Here I am, 7 months later. Made some repairs. Got some new wheels Removed broken exhaust resonator Upgraded rear sway bar Upgraded the stereo system Now I don't even want to use the SVX for work at all, and I am toying with the idea of a second car.. I just wish I could park her and bank some money so I could take her to see Old Tom and have new shocks/springs/mounts and a 4.44 tranny... But I cant park her without another car. And another car will cost me more than the repairs to the SVX. And then I still wont want to use the SVX for work. And I will still want to drive the SVX everywhere. ARRRRGGGG! |

Re: i'm tired of car troubles....
today i went on a hunt for a brake hose but nothing turned up. after this i went to a local shop that deals with hydraulics to see if they could use the fittings off the original hose. they used some kind of hydraulic hose that has the same inner diameter as the oem hose but has a larger outer diameter. the best part of this is that the hose is steel braided with a thick outer lining of rubber. i liked this idea so much that i bought all four hoses. there is absolutely no expansion in these hoses, the bake pedal is so much firmer than stock. all this and it only cost me $80.
