After 12 years of dreaming... I'm an SVX owner :)

Hey guys I just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Jon, and I have been lurking here for years, but never had a reason to post (didn't own an SVX yet). However, as of last weekend I'm the proud new owner of a Bordeaux Pearl ‘97 SVX LSi.

My wife and I are the “new” owners of it, but this car is definitely not new to me. My dad has owned this car since he bought it new from the local Subaru dealership back in 1997. I fell in love with it the day he brought it home (as did he lol), and have dreamed of owning one ever since. He has been daily driving it now for the past 13 years. Over the past couple of years however, the car hasn’t been has reliable as it once was. If it was any other car he probably would have traded it in years ago, but he really loves this car and wanted to hold onto it as long as he could. He is not much of a gearhead, doesn't work on cars, and now travels a lot so he finally decided that he needed something more reliable and bought a new car. He wanted to keep it in the family so finally sold it to my wife and I (me being the car guy in the family). Lucky us! :D

As I mentioned, my dad doesn't work on cars himself, and he doesn't let me touch his cars with any tools lol. So every maintenance job or repair done to this car was done at the dealership.

It's a 1997 SVX Lsi with 135k. It is as bone stock as it gets, nothing has been changed on it other than the required maintenance items.

Right now it has a few issues, like a small exhaust leak and what seems to be a small oil leak that is seeping down onto the exhaust manifolds. The engine is still very healthy, the transmission is good, and the body is in great shape other than some slight bubbling rust and some minor dents and dings. Some interior parts are also a little worn too. My plans with the car are to restore it to its original glory, and then upgrade a few things that I feel are outdated now. I already installed some HIDs from DDM tuning, and I refinished the headlights since they were so faded yellow.

Here is the only picture that I have right now it's a little old but the car still looks the same. I'll get some updated pictures as soon as I can. And yes I know half the wheels are backwards, actually they are all backwards right now!

I also own an ‘03 WRX that I’ve been driving/modifying for a few years now –VF34 ball bearing turbo (with all supporting mods), Tokico adjustable struts, crucial racing drop springs, and a long list of other mods. Had it dyno tuned and it put down 282 hp and 244 tq on a mustang dyno (at the wheels).

And my daily driver/track toy in the summer is my ’08 Kawasaki ZZR 600. Just got it this year, it’s my third sport bike and is tons of fun. :)

I'm happy to join the SVX community and very excited to finally have the car! I'll be sure to get some more pics soon. :)

Welcome!

Very nice looking cars! I'm a big fan of bugeyes.

Don't know if you have already but sooner or later you'll be told not to forget to register your svx in the appropriate section, so I'll throw that at you now. For you that can be done here: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=48296

Congrats and welcome, this is the right place for ya!!

It's cool that your dad passed the SVX on to you, I kinda had same dream like you did, but didn't happen since I left my home country after high school... and it wasn't even SVX.. My parents once thought about buying the SVX when it came out but they decided not to. So after 10+ years later I bought one for myself. :)

BTW, I have a '96 Bordeaux. Well, was Bordeaux, since recently the car was repainted to Merlot. Subtle difference, but I do like this new color!!! :D:D:D

There is a tremendous wealth of info in these pages, generated by a great group of people.
I have found answers to all questions and problems that I have had so far.
I have not worked on a car so much since my 79 Firebird that I had 15 years ago.

Cheers :)

Ah yes, I've been lurking here long enough that I should have known the first couple posts are to register, and then the pointing out that the wheels are backwards. Actually, that picture is outdated and now all of the wheels are backwards. :)

I have seen the pictures of your car, it is beautiful. It's kinda funny because a lot of what you've done is what I planned for my car, hopefully someday mine will look that nice again!

Thanks! That is a very nice pearlie you have, my wife really wants a pearlie too now that we have one SVX lol. Love the ZX-14, I've drooled all over them at the dealers before, someday I might have to try one, but for now I'm having fun with the ZZR. Nice Legacy GT too, it seems we have very similar taste in vehicles. :D

I'll be sure to register the VIN, and posts some newer pics soon. Thanks for the welcome everyone! :)
